Every hour of my site visit with Westside made me more and more excited. This new leader will start with a solid core of 80 to 100 teens and work with a Discipleship Pastor who wants those under his care to run with freedom! The low-hanging fruit in this role is very evident– build into the leadership, and this ministry will scale quickly as the teens are hungry for relationships and love applying what they learn!
Westside Church in Omaha, Nebraska, was founded in 1966 by Dr. Calvin Miller. From its humble beginnings with five families, the church experienced remarkable growth under Dr. Miller’s leadership. Initially located on 139th and Pacific, the church later moved to its present location on 150th and West Dodge Road in the 1980s to accommodate its expanding congregation.
After Dr. Miller’s retirement in 1992, Dr. Tony Lambert took over as the second pastor from 1997 to 2002, contributing to the church’s ongoing development. Dr. Curt Dodd assumed the role of the third pastor in 2004 and continues to lead the congregation today. Despite facing challenges, including those posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Westside Church remains resilient and committed to rebuilding and revitalizing its ministries.
As Westside Church grows in this post-pandemic rebuilding season, it remains dedicated to serving the local community and spreading the Good News in Omaha and worldwide. The church’s history stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its founding families and the transformative impact of its leaders over the years.
