Westover Church exists to develop maturing followers of Jesus Christ. The church’s vision is to gather and scatter. Westover gathers to grow in relationship with God and one another, then scatters to fulfill the Great Commission in Greensboro and around the world.
Westover’s discipleship pathway is rooted in the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:24 and summarized in three words: Come, Deny, Follow. The church calls people to come to Christ, deny themselves, and follow Him in faithful obedience.
As a non denominational evangelical church, Westover is committed to the authority of Scripture, the centrality of Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the mission of the church. Its worship ministry should reflect these commitments by teaching the gospel, communicating essential truths about God, and leading the congregation into a proper and heartfelt response.
Westover’s staff culture is shaped by a shared commitment to discipleship, worship, mission, care, and collaboration. The Pastor of Worship will work closely with the Lead Pastor, Worship Director, Production Director, worship staff, WAV personnel, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
This role requires a leader who can build trust, communicate clearly, and strengthen alignment across departments. The right person will bring a healthy presence to the team, lead planning rhythms well, and participate fully in the broader life of the staff. Because the role includes both worship and production leadership, this person must be able to bring musicians, vocalists, technicians, and pastors together around a shared vision for faithful gathered worship.
The Pastor of Worship will provide leadership and oversight for Westover’s worship ministry and Westover Audio Visual teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead weekend worship services three to four times per month with pastoral presence, musical excellence, humility, and theological depth
- Shape worship services that align with Westover’s purpose, vision, mission, and values
- Plan and execute Sunday services and special events, including service flow, song selection, Scripture readings, prayers, transitions, media, and production needs.
- Ensure that worship through song faithfully teaches the gospel, communicates essential truths about God, and forms the hearts of God’s people.
- Research and prepare worship elements that are theologically aligned, pastorally wise, and implemented with excellence.
- Provide leadership for worship staff, WAV personnel, musicians, vocalists, worship leaders, and production volunteers.
- Recruit, encourage, train, and develop volunteers who serve with joy, skill, humility, and consistency.
- Promote multigenerational worship and help equip families for worship in the home.
- Lead worship planning meetings, event planning, team rhythms, and retreats.
- Collaborate across departments to increase the effectiveness and engagement of worship services, worship teams, and WAV teams.
The ideal candidate will have a clear and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a life marked by humility, spiritual maturity, and integrity. This leader should be aligned with Westover’s evangelical convictions, its commitment to Scripture, and its posture of unity in essential beliefs, liberty in non essential beliefs, and love in all beliefs.
Strong candidates will bring proven experience leading congregational worship with musical excellence and pastoral sensitivity. They should be able to plan worship services with theological depth, develop musicians and vocalists, understand production and audio visual ministry, and lead teams with clarity and care. The strongest candidates will also bring administrative competency, collaborative instincts, commitment to multigenerational worship, and a shepherd’s heart for the congregation.
