Position Description

The Vice President of Communications will provide vision, mission, purpose, and strategic leadership for internal and external communications to amplify the ministry of The Navigators, to know Christ, make him known, and help others do the same.

The VP of Communications will work collaboratively across departments to translate the priorities of the US Leadership Team into impactful brand position and communication strategies for a diverse audience, including staff, missions, ministry partners, the church, and the public.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision, strategic leadership, planning, and decision-making for Communications in alignment with the Navigators National Strategy and National Initiatives and in line with Navigators brand standards.
  • Hire, train, develop, supervise, and retain qualified Communications staff. Build an effective leadership team by facilitating strong collaboration, championing an understanding of organizational interdependencies, and fostering strategic decision-making and organizational efficiency.
  • Manage the Communications strategy and sub-functions, including public relations. Provide biblical and theological reflection on issues relating to The Navigators communication.
  • Collaborate closely with the US Leadership Team to steward the national brand of The Navigators and provide cohesive internal messaging to several diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Facilitate productive collaboration and partnerships across ministry, businesses, and support functions. Bring together various functions and teams within The Navigators to develop a shared vision that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals, US Leadership Team, and objectives.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for programs and efforts in accordance with Navigators policies and procedures.

 

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

A strategic executive responsible for protecting and leading the organization’s internal communication strategies, including managing crisis communications.

The ideal candidate is/has:

  • Deep Expertise in Communications: Highly experienced communications expert who cares deeply about creating healthy culture, alignment and effective two-way communication.
  • High Emotional intelligence: Relational agility and the capacity to adeptly navigate leadership dynamics while building trust quickly.
  • Strategic Mindset: Mature leader with demonstrated experience building and implementing a multi-tiered, multi-faceted communication plan. Knows how to precisely align communication tactics with the right resources.
  • Outstanding Stakeholder Management: Collaborates and partners closely with executive leadership at multiple levels throughout the organization.
  • Strong Leader of Communications Department: Quickly assesses and discerns the critical communications functions necessary to advance the mission of the organization. Effectively builds and leads a communications team supporting the communication strategy that this role develops in partnership with the U.S. Leadership Team.
