At Turning Point, the mission is clear “Transform Lives, Period.” Their student ministries have experienced explosive growth over the past eighteen months, presenting an exciting opportunity for a visionary leader passionate about reaching students and equipping leaders. They are seeking a strategic leader driven to grow their youth ministry, develop leaders, and advance their ministry vision. If you are passionate about making a difference and are motivated to help students thrive, this is the opportunity for you.
Turning Point Community Church (TPCC) is a thriving church in Lubbock, Texas. The church was founded in 2003 by Andy Wood, who was a staff member at the city’s largest church. In its early years, the congregation moved around to different locations, including a science museum and a funeral home, before settling on a 15-acre cotton field on the south edge of Lubbock in 2007. The location proved prophetic as the intersection of Quaker and 114th became one of the busiest hubs in the city, drawing thousands of people every day to nearby businesses.
After the founding pastor left in 2010, TPCC entered its foundational years under the leadership of John Wagner, who focused on stabilizing the church’s finances and expanding its missions work. The church’s sense of purpose was framed as “Changed lives. Period.” During this period, the congregation grew from 400-600 to 800-1000 weekly attendees. In 2018, Chuck Angel became the Sr. Pastor and brought new building skills for a new season at TPCC. The church continued to grow and adapted quickly to the Covid-19 pandemic. TPCC completed a renovation project in 2021 that increased its capacity to 1700 in its three-service format.
TPCC’s next focus is on developing a discipleship plan and capability that utilizes smaller groups, technology, and accessible mentoring to develop Christ followers who are marked by changed lives. The church’s driving purpose is to become elite at making disciples in this next season. Despite challenges and transitions, TPCC has remained rooted in its mission to change lives and has become a thriving faith community in Lubbock, Texas.
