Gospel:
The Summit prioritizes the gospel above all. The gospel is not simply one ministry emphasis among many. It is the identity and center of the church.
Reach:
The Summit is committed to doing whatever it takes to reach all people with the gospel. The church carries what it calls a “gospel greed” for one more person and seeks to reach a megacity rather than simply build a megachurch.
Disciple:
The Summit makes disciples, not just converts. The church’s discipleship language emphasizes worshipers, family members, servants, stewards, and witnesses as marks of whole life formation.
Send:
The Summit sends every member and calls the church to Live Sent. The church connects this sending identity to the mission of Jesus and expresses it through serving the campus, serving the city, and serving the world.
Lead campus strategy and mobilization:
- The Director / Pastor of Local Outreach will help every campus engage its surrounding community with intentionality. This includes advising Campus Pastors on local outreach strategy, helping identify meaningful community partnerships, resourcing lay leaders, and planning catalytic events that move the congregation into service.
Provide central oversight for Local Outreach:
- This leader will give direction to existing core focus areas, including foster care, special needs, prisons, refugees, and schools. They will also help identify, incubate, and scale new initiatives that bless and impact the city.
Develop new institution level initiatives:
- The role includes leadership for new strategic initiatives such as Summit Life Center Centers, special needs camps, refugee housing, and other emerging ministry opportunities that align with The Summit’s mission and local outreach philosophy.
Manage budget, personnel, and project proposals:
- The Director / Pastor will manage the Local Outreach operating budget, provide leadership for personnel, and oversee Legacy Lanes project proposals related to Local Outreach.
Serve as a subject matter expert in local outreach:
- The new leader will stay informed on best practices, trends, and biblical foundations for outreach. They will provide thought leadership that equips staff, lay leaders, and members to integrate outreach into the life of the church.
Cast vision through communication and storytelling:
- This leader will inspire and galvanize the church to seek the joy of the city through communication, storytelling, prayer, and regular vision casting. The role requires someone who can celebrate stories of God at work and help the congregation see local outreach as a natural expression of gospel discipleship.
Develop leaders rather than simply manage programs:
- The strongest candidate will view leader development as the primary path to long term impact. They will coach volunteers and staff, draw out the strengths of others, and resist the temptation to micromanage.
Build strong internal and external partnerships:
- The Director / Pastor will build relationships across the Sending Team, campus teams, staff, volunteers, city leaders, and community partners. This will require influence without relying only on positional authority.
Gospel conviction and theological alignment
- The candidate should be deeply aligned with The Summit’s gospel centered theology, sending identity, and commitment to the local church. They should be a member of The Summit Church (or willing and able to become a member) and acknowledge their acceptance of, and agreement with, the Statement of Faith as set forth in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
Passion for community engagement and gospel impact
- This leader should be motivated by a redemptive imagination for the Triangle and a desire to see the church seek the good of the city through service and sacrifice.
Strategic leadership experience
- The candidate should be able to lead a team, build strategy, set meaningful measures, manage systems, and execute ministry plans with excellence. They should understand both long term development and short-term relief models in local outreach.
Experience coaching and developing leaders
- The role requires someone who can develop staff and volunteers, equip lay leaders, and build leadership pipelines that increase the church’s long term ministry capacity.
Excellent communication and vision casting ability
- The candidate should be able to inspire others through compelling communication, clear vision, and strong storytelling. They must be able to align staff, mobilize congregants, and help the church celebrate stories of God at work.
Collaborative leadership across a complex organization
- The Summit needs a leader who can work well with campus pastors, ministry staff, lay leaders, community partners, and the Sending Team. This person must be comfortable influencing without always having direct authority.
Operational and budget management ability
- The candidate should be able to manage the Local Outreach budget, personnel, project proposals, and ministry systems with integrity, clarity, and accountability.
Relational credibility with community partners
- The strongest candidate will enjoy building relationships and networks both inside and outside the church. They should be comfortable partnering with city leaders and community organizations in a way that reflects The Summit’s mission and honors the dignity of those being served.
