About This Organization

The Peoples Church was founded in 1928 by Oswald J Smith.   For 97 years, The Peoples Church has been called by God to focus on global mission through compassion, justice and evangelism.  Today we give away 40% of our revenues to global mission – this is a designation by the congregation, indicating that the Holy Spirit continues to lead our congregation into joining God in His Global Mission.

The Peoples Church has long been known for 3 elements:  a passion for global mission, solid Biblical teaching, and excellent musical worship.  If you look back through our history, you will see that all three of these elements have shone in different ways during different seasons, taking contemporary expressions.

The Peoples Church has only had 5 lead Pastors: Oswald J Smith, Paul B Smith, John Hull, Charles Price and Brett McBride.

Our current expression of global mission includes a deep commitment to partnering with local leaders that God has called and who are working in the areas of compassion, justice and evangelism.  We also express our commitment to global mission locally through a strong welcoming ministry to Newcomers to Canada, and through Refugee Ministries, providing emergency shelter and community for those who have been forcibly displaced.

Location

“Love living in this neighborhood because everything I need—and enjoy—is just steps away. From cafés and restaurants that offer a variety of dining experience to everyday essentials like the public transit, a shopping mall with a grocery store, and even a community recreation centre and library full of great programs—it’s all just a short walk away. A quick drive or short commute opens up even more places to enjoy—parks, more dining spots, libraries, malls. One of the most pleasant surprises when I first moved here was how this vibrant neighborhood still manages to feel calm and quiet at the same time.”
