Mission, Vision, and Values
Mission:
- Southcrest’s mission centers on gathering for worship, growing in faith, serving others, and going into the world with the gospel. Within that mission, The Journey exists to help college students “find their greatest pleasure and purpose in Jesus.”
Vision:
- To see students at Texas Tech and surrounding colleges become deeply rooted followers of Jesus who love the local church, serve others, and carry their faith into every area of life. The emphasis is on developing spiritually healthy disciples and leaders whose influence extends beyond their college years.
Values:
- Biblical Authority: Grounding teaching, discipleship, and ministry decisions in the truth of Scripture.
- Authentic Community: Building genuine relationships where students are known, supported, and challenged to grow.

Staff Culture

Key Responsibilities
- Lead The Journey college ministry: Develop a clear vision for reaching students at Texas Tech and surrounding colleges through worship gatherings, discipleship, outreach, and authentic community.
- Teach and preach: Deliver biblically grounded, engaging messages approximately 20 Sundays each year in The Venue, connecting with people across generations.
- Develop and empower leaders: Recruit, equip, and support residents, volunteers, and student leaders, giving them meaningful responsibility and opportunities to grow.
- Shepherd and mobilize students: Provide pastoral care, cultivate spiritual maturity, and help students build lasting connections to the local church through service, leadership, and missions.
Key Qualifications
- Spiritual maturity and doctrinal alignment: Demonstrates personal integrity, a strong biblical foundation, and agreement with Southcrest doctrine, complementarian convictions, and ministry philosophy.
- College ministry experience: Demonstrated ability to connect with college students, guide their spiritual growth, and help them engage in the local church.
- Teaching ability: A gifted communicator who teaches Scripture with depth, clarity, and authenticity and connects effectively across generations.
- Leadership development: Experience building and equipping leaders, residents, or volunteers, with the initiative to cast vision and empower others without micromanaging.
- Relational strength: Approachable, genuine, and highly relational, with the ability to shepherd students and collaborate effectively with staff.
- Education: A seminary or relevant graduate degree is preferred but not required.
