Elk Grove, California
Why I Love This Opportunity
Sun Grove Church is located just outside beautiful Sacramento, Ca. offering the best of residential living and big-city attractions. Lead Pastor, Brian Werner is a visionary leader who is passionate about reaching the city of Elk Grove. This new Youth Pastor will have plenty of freedom to dream big and the support needed to see them become reality.
About This Organization
Sun Grove had its first public service in 1991 after families had been gathering together since 1989. They purchased a small warehouse that was quickly outgrown and made the decision to be a portable church in 1992. Sun Grove met in two local high schools until Lead Pastor Dave Flaig, who came in 2009, led Sun Grove into the purchase of a fantastic, modern 45,000 sq ft. building.
Sun Grove enjoyed a steady growth to about 1000 weekend attendees until the pandemic forced lockdown. Sun Grove began meeting in person in early 2021 but shortly after that Dave Flaig unexpectedly passed away. Brian Werner who was the Executive Pastor at the time became the interim pastor in 2021 leading the church thru the grief process. In May 2022 Brian was officially announced as the Lead pastor.
The position of Youth Pastor at Sun Grove will be given a great foundation to build a ministry designed to reach the community of Elk Grove. This new leader will have a team of part-time staff, designated facility space, and lots of support from Lead Pastor Brian Werner.

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:
Sun Grove is thinking outside the box as to how the church reaches its community. Elk Grove is growing quickly with new, young families. With new growth happening all the time, the church is always looking for new ways to serve the community. This new leader will need to carry on this innovative spirit.
Being a relational, fun leader is a high value of the SG ministry philosophy. This is seen by small group leaders knowing and investing in their students, having intentional conversations on trips, and taking students out for a meal. The staff value personal relationships and moving past being “staff members.”
SG has a passion to see its student ministry team involved in the community. This can be taking students to coffee, attending a sporting event, or networking with coaches and faculty. This new leader should be aggressive in his vision to see lost students know Jesus. The right candidate will see Elk Grove, and all of its students, as their mission field.
- LEADER OF LEADERS
It is imperative that the new Youth Pastor has a history of developing strong adult and student leadership teams. The youth ministry has a good foundation with leaders who are committed to serving. Many of them are new to the ministry and ready to be developed. There is still room to grow and build, primarily with the student leadership teams.
As the Youth Pastor, this role will serve both middle school and high school. Serving alongside our part-time staff members Samuel Grace who is currently the Interim Youth Pastor, Corrina Frattalone who focuses on the Middle School girls, and Abby Farabaugh who focuses on the High School girls. This new leader will be given the freedom to work with this team to maximize individual strengths and ministry giftings.
- INTENTIONAL LEADERSHIP
Systemes is a big deal for the staff at SG. It will be imperative that this new leader be intentional, planned, and able to clearly communicate vision and direction. The spirit behind these systems is to increase communication, and efficiency, and decrease tension. Each department head meets with P. Brian regularly for Pastoral care, coaching, and planning. A leader who plans ahead and is open to a collaborative environment will thrive at Sun Grove.
