St Andrews Presbyterian Church

High School Minister

Newport Beach,
California
Our YOUTH MINISTRY purpose/mission statement is as follows: We warmly invite and welcome those exploring faith, connect them with other believers, nurture their spiritual and emotional growth, help them discover their purpose, and encourage a life of service—while having fun and living authentically. YOUTH at St Andrews is in a season of transition, with new leadership comes new vision! This presents a sweet opportunity for a new High School Minister to join the Family Ministry team and build this new style together. High School meets Wednesday nights 7:30-9:30 with 30-45 students. There is a solid group of leaders dedicated to these students and the kingdom. Change can bring a need for a time of healing and a new leader will need to be sensitive to this reality. They are also excited to see where God will take the ministry next. Some of the leaders have grown up at St Andrews and been witness to change and God’s big plan over the years. A BBQ is hosted on campus on Thursdays for High School students to walk across the street for burgers and chips together. So many opportunities at St Andrews Youth!

Why I Love This Opportunity

St Andrews is primed for a new season of ministry! If you thrive in outreach, service and building teams, you will love this opportunity! Along with the fact that St Andrews  is actually located across the street from a High School makes this role a sweet opportunity for the right candidate.

Associate

A great match for this position would be:

  • Relational Magnet – A High School Minister who thrives on building relationships and with tremendous intentionality and drive; able to connect and include others. They are driven to reach, connect with and go deeper with students.
  • Outreach Minded – There is a high school directly across the street and many opportunities for students to come onto our church campus! There is plenty of room to dream about how to meet the hundreds of students who are literally on our front doorstep. They are both evangelistic and discipleship minded.
  • Team Player – Joining the Family Ministry team at St Andrews will bring support and execution to a new and forward-thinking vision. The culture and style of the current leadership team is focused and intentional on building the future by providing safe spaces, places for all to serve and community in each ministry.
  • Imago Dei Driven – This next High School leader will thrive on this team with an Imago Dei perspective of facing hard conversations with grace, truth and time knowing that all people are made in the Image of God (Imago Dei). Willing to own their failures and faults, while honestly speaking truth in love.
  • Service Focused – Being Service Focused in this context is two fold, ministering to the hurting and training up a service minded student ministry. The next High School minister needs to have a heart for creating safe places for students hurting and simply walking through life. Plus, modeling and teaching the next generation how to serve others at church and in life.

About This Organization

St. Andrews Presbyterian Church has a rich history that dates back to 1964, when it was founded by a small group of people who wanted to create a vibrant community of faith in the growing city. Initially meeting in a local elementary school, the church quickly grew in size and vision, and by 1965, they broke ground on a permanent location at the corner of Irvine Avenue and 15th Street. Over the decades, the church has become a cornerstone of the community, offering a welcoming space for worship, fellowship, and service. St. Andrew’s has always been committed to reaching out to both its local and global community through various mission programs, including partnerships with local organizations, and a strong emphasis on youth and family ministries.

St Andrews has had one main pastor for over 30 years (who still attends today!). Following him, the next lead pastor was there for seven years. After him, went through a period of struggle with finding the right fit for lead pastor, which led to a period of fragmentation, in which the pandemic didn’t help.

However, since 2021, St. Andrews has been rebuilding and today has a dynamic, welcoming, warm atmosphere with its commitment to authentic relational connection and spiritual growth. It continues to offer a variety of programs for all ages, from Sunday school to adult education and Bible studies. The church is also highly active in community outreach, regularly hosting events. Its music ministry is especially reputable, with a skilled choir and contemporary worship services that blend tradition with modern expressions of faith. The congregation values intergenerational relationships, and the church’s leadership strives to maintain a spirit of openness, focusing on creating a space where all people feel welcome to explore their faith and deepen their discipleship.  Whether through worship, small groups, or family outreach, St. Andrew’s continues to serve as a vibrant spiritual hub in Newport Beach.
