- Genuinely love kids!
- Assist in the execution of spiritual formation curriculum that fosters deep, meaningful engagement with faith among children and their families.
- Maintain a pipeline of volunteer identification, training, development, and multiplication providing opportunities and mentorship for volunteers to grow in ministry opportunities and leadership (Middle and High School volunteers, congregants, etc…).
- Champion faith milestones for kids and families (baptism, dedications, etc…).
- Participate and help organize outreach events such as VBS, Fall Fest, etc…
- Partner with parents: communicating and connecting often and effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all licensing procedures, facility requirements, and all safety standards.
- Participate in weekly Family Generations and Children’s Ministry team meetings.
- Be mindful of program budget.
- Coordinate with the broader church leadership to ensure the Children’s Ministry aligns with overall church goals and initiatives.
- Assist in the coordination of children participation in main church service as needed.
- Strengthen community engagement through organizing volunteer-led events.
- Seek and pursue serve opportunities with parents and kids.
- Assist in the administration of the day-to-day operations of the Children’s Ministry.
- Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus that includes personal habits, accountability, and corporate worship.
- Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred, plus minimum of three years church related experience required.
- An active participant of St. Andrew’s who affirms the mission, values and mission of both the church and family ministries department.
- Pursue ongoing personal and professional development through reading, conferences, networking, and staying updated on current trends and resources in children’s ministry.
- A commitment to collaboration.
- An openness to growth and feedback.
Jason Smith: Is the lead pastor at St. Andrew’s, is known for his warm, approachable leadership style and passionate commitment to guiding people in their faith journeys. With a heart for both teaching and community-building, Jason emphasizes practical, real-life application of Scripture, helping individuals connect deeply with God and each other. His sermons are known for being engaging, thoughtful, and often infused with humor, making them accessible while challenging his congregation to grow spiritually. Jason also places a strong emphasis on creating a church culture where all are not only welcome, but they are wanted!
His leadership is marked by a deep care for people, a collaborative spirit, and a desire to lead St. Andrew’s into being a church that serves both its members and the broader community with love, purpose and a clear persona that he is not above others, but walks alongside them. He is making a tremendous difference there!
Megan Hutchinson: Rejoined the St. Andrews team in July of 2024 after spending 3 years growing in ministry other places. Prior to St. Andrews she has decades of ministry experience. She is an author and speaker and a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary. The Children’s Director role will be on the Family Generations Team, with Megan as the Family Generations Pastor. Megan and her husband live in Newport with their two young adult sons!
Jessica Rivera: Jessica recently joined the St. Andrews team filling the role of Minister to Children. Jessica comes with a long history and vast experience in children’s ministry, most recently at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest. The Children’s Director position will be supervised by Jessica.
