Shelbyville Community Church

Worship Pastor

Shelbyville,
Indiana
Shelbyville Community Church is searching for a Worship Pastor who is a pastor first, a strong worship leader second, and a collaborative teammate in everything they do. This person will lead a healthy, established worship ministry of approximately 60 volunteers while helping shape the weekend experience for a church averaging around 650 people each Sunday. The opportunity goes well beyond leading songs. SCC is deeply committed to making disciples, reaching people far from Jesus and bringing hope and healing throughout Shelbyville. The Worship Pastor will shepherd people, develop leaders, strengthen systems, collaborate with an unusually healthy staff team and help connect the worship ministry to the larger mission of the church. The right person will bring genuine platform presence and musical credibility without needing the spotlight. They will know how to honor what is already healthy, earn trust before introducing major change, and eventually build a worship ministry that is spiritually deep, musically strong, relationally healthy and increasingly multiplied through others.

Why We Love This Opportunity

We love this opportunity because Shelbyville Community Church is doing much more than trying to build a great Sunday service. They genuinely love their city, and you can see it in everything from addiction recovery and counseling to job training and partnerships with people coming out of incarceration.

The worship ministry already has talented people and good infrastructure. This isn’t a rescue mission. The next leader gets to inherit something healthy, pastor a strong team and help take it into its next season alongside one of the healthiest and most aligned staff cultures I’ve encountered.

A great match for this position would be:

  • Pastoral Shepherd: The Worship Pastor must love and shepherd people before thinking about them as musicians or volunteers. Their Lead Pastor wants “a pastor/shepherd first and a musician second.” The team already thinks of itself as family, and the next leader will inherit people who expect genuine relationship, care and spiritual leadership.
  • Humble Collaborator: This leader must possess enough confidence to lead strong people without needing to prove they are the smartest person in the room. They must receive feedback well, disagree relationally, remain teachable and value the expertise already present in the church.
  • Missional Pastor: The next Worship Pastor must genuinely care about people far from Jesus and people on the margins of the community. This cannot be a leader who only gets excited about worship conferences, new songs, gear and stage environments. They should be energized by SCC’s recovery ministries, counseling, Jobs for Life, food ministry and partnerships throughout Shelbyville because those ministries reveal what this church is trying to become.
  • Wise Builder: This person will inherit something healthy and established, but unfinished. They need the wisdom to honor what exists before changing it, while eventually bringing stronger systems, accountability, development and vision. The new Worship Pastor should not arrive and immediately overhaul the playlist, team or systems simply to put their stamp on things.
  • Engaging Leader: SCC needs someone who can actually lead a room. There needs to be musical credibility, a strong voice, genuine platform energy and a natural ability to draw people into worship without turning the worship set into another sermon.

About This Organization

Shelbyville Community Church has served Shelbyville, Indiana, for decades under the leadership of Lead Pastor Brad Davis, who came to the community in 1994. Today the church averages approximately 650 people each Sunday across two services and is positioned for renewed growth in a community that is itself beginning to expand.

SCC has always cared about reaching its community, but that commitment has developed into something unusually tangible. The church operates ministry facilities beyond its primary campus that provide addiction recovery, counseling, food assistance, job readiness and other practical ministries. Its Jobs for Life program has developed meaningful trust with the local criminal justice system, allowing the church to serve people rebuilding their lives after incarceration.

Internally, SCC is in a particularly healthy season. The staff describes itself as more unified and focused than at any previous point, and the church has adopted the Intentional Churches framework to help bring clarity to its disciple-making strategy, leadership structure and ministry priorities. This is a church that wants excellent ministry, but it wants ministry excellence for a reason: to help people meet Jesus, take their next step and become mature disciples.

Location

“Shelbyville offers the pace and relationships of a smaller Indiana community while remaining roughly 30 minutes from downtown Indianapolis. Housing is more affordable than many communities, and we have a charming downtown filled with locally owned restaurants, shops, and businesses. It’s the kind of place where you can know people, raise a family, and really become part of the community.”
