“When we relocated to Atlanta, we chose to live in the city…We found a city that is made up of neighborhoods, often with their own personality, a place where we knew our neighbors and built a community of love and support. The rich diversity, of all types, that surrounds us daily has provided learning opportunities for the entire family. Atlanta has been a wonderful place for us to grow as a couple and for us to raise our daughter.”
Quote from: Judy Knighten, Clerk of the Session
North Avenue was founded in 1898 by members wanting to create another Presbyterian church in the newly expanded city of Atlanta. The officers and members of NAPC made a strategic decision in the 1950’s, which was to remain downtown although the church was no longer a neighborhood church as it had been at its inception and members had to pass many suburban churches on their way to church each Sunday. This decision was to become involved in urban ministry, with internationals, and with the world as well as the city. Currently the church averages more than 200 in attendance on Sundays, with a budget of around $2 million.
