Position Description

The Senior Director of Missions and Discipleship at Asbury Church is a leadership role that guides the Missions and Discipleship ministry teams, focusing on local outreach, global missions, and spiritual growth. The position requires a deep commitment to Christ and alignment with Asbury Church’s vision.

 

Core Leadership & Spiritual Responsibilities:

  • Lead with Asbury’s core values: eagerness to grow, understanding, and love
  • Maintain a strong prayer life for spiritual guidance.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the Missions & Discipleship teams.
  • Work alongside the Senior Pastor, Executive Director, and pastoral team to further church-wide initiatives.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to serving God and model servant leadership.

 

Missions Development & Implementation:

  • Lead teams for Outreach & Mission, Second Saturday, and Celebrate Recovery.
  • Cast vision for the church’s local and global missions and evangelism efforts.
  • Collaborate with leadership to increase congregational participation in mission activities.
  • Develop educational opportunities related to missions and outreach.
  • Oversee local and global mission partnerships and budgets.

 

Discipleship Development & Implementation:

  • Lead the Discipleship administrative team.
  • Partner with pastors to create discipleship programs aligned with the church’s values and mission.
  • Design effective discipleship systems and oversee educational programs.
  • Develop annual discipleship budgets and teach classes to equip lay leaders.

 

Requirements:

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in ministry or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of senior leadership in a large church or parachurch environment preferred.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and strategic planning skills.
  • Passion for missions and discipleship.
  • Proven experience in system creation, management, and implementation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • This role requires leadership, vision, and collaboration within a theologically conservative church context.
