Scarlet Hope

Director of Development

Remote

Scarlet Hope is seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead and execute a comprehensive advancement strategy that fuels the organization’s mission of restoring hope and dignity to exploited and trafficked women. Reporting to the Vice President and working in close partnership with the Founder, this role is both strategic and hands-on: responsible for strengthening fundraising systems while personally stewarding key donor relationships that drive sustainable growth. The Director of Development will serve as a critical partner to the Founder, helping translate Scarlet Hope’s vision into a disciplined, data-informed development operation. This leader will assess and strengthen the donor pipeline, bring rigor to moves management, and carry a personal portfolio of mid-major and major donors (both households and churches) while collaborating closely with a strong operations and communications team.

Why I Love This Opportunity

This role has tons of potential. Scarlet Hope’s founder, Rachelle Starr, is deeply trusted by high-capacity, generous donors, and this role will help steward and expand those relationships. At the same time, Scarlet Hope already has a solid operations team with a strong grasp of donor communications, segmentation, and execution. This Director of Development gets to build on that foundation, bringing strategic leadership, owning key relationships, and helping the organization mature its fundraising systems in a way that supports long-term impact and sustainability.

Janie Mehaffey

Associate

A great match for this position would be:

  • A seasoned advancement leader: Brings experience assessing donor portfolios, identifying gaps, and moving donors toward deeper engagement and generosity.
  • A relational mid-major and major gift officer: Comfortably carrying their own book of donors and churches, cultivating trust-based relationships that lead to meaningful partnership.
  • A strategic thinker: Uses data, systems, and clear next steps to guide fundraising activity rather than relying on intuition alone.
  • A collaborative leader who complements a visionary founder: Knows how to honor and leverage a founder’s relational strengths while adding structure, follow-through, and scalability.
  • A spiritually mature professional with theological alignment: Deeply aligned with Scarlet Hope’s Christ-centered evangelical mission and can represent the organization with integrity to faith-based partners.

About This Organization

Scarlet Hope is a Gospel-centered outreach ministry committed to reaching women in the adult entertainment industry and those exploited through trafficking with the hope of Jesus Christ. Since 2007, Scarlet Hope has gone boldly into strip clubs, streets, and digital spaces, meeting women where they are and offering dignity, relationship, and a pathway toward healing and discipleship.

What began in one city has grown into a national and global model of outreach. Scarlet Hope equips and mobilizes local churches, volunteers, and leaders to engage the margins with excellence and integrity, believing that outreach is not optional; it is foundational. Every strategy, system, and structure exists to serve transformed lives and eternal impact.

Location

This is a remote role with frequent travel to Scarlet Hope’s headquarters in Louisville, KY, as well as regular travel to meet with donors, church partners, and key stakeholders. Candidates should be comfortable building relationships virtually and face-to-face, representing Scarlet Hope in a variety of settings.
