Redeemer East Side

Worship Director

New York,
New York
The Worship Director furthers the mission and values of Redeemer Presbyterian Church East Side (Redeemer East Side / RES) by overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of the music ministry program ensuring weekly corporate worship services that draw our diverse congregation into joyful, participatory, and formative worship through an engaging style that reflects the transcendence and immanence of our great God. This position is open to men or women. This position requires effective leadership both on and off the platform, a high degree of musical knowledge and skill, and a highly collaborative partnership with the Redeemer East Side pastoral team, staff, and volunteers. Stylistically, the expectation and vision for Redeemer East Side music includes primarily guitar, piano, and strings, with selective use of organ, brass, and choir for more festive Sundays and events. The musical repertoire is eclectic, drawing from both modern and traditional hymnody as well as from the best of contemporary music with lyrically substantive songs.

Why I Love This Opportunity

Redeemer East Side is a historic church in the heart of the city, founded by the late, great Tim Keller. Not every church can say that the nations of the earth are outside their very doorstep, but that is what ministry in New York City is like. I’m excited to find a new Worship Director at Redeemer as they forge a new path for their worship and creativity arts ministry.

  • Someone who loves living and doing ministry in New York City
  • A leader who directs worship that is beautiful, formative, and participatory
  • A shepherd-hearted leader who is understanding and patient while leading a congregation through change
  • A leader who is an active, growing Christian that is comfortable working in a church setting that teaches Reformed Theology (God’s grace, sovereignty, Word, etc.)

About This Organization

Redeemer Presbyterian Church was planted in 1989 by Tim Keller on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. In 1993, the church outgrew its rented space and moved to Hunter College auditorium, becoming a citywide church. From there, Redeemer experienced extreme growth with services across different locations in the city; its ministry having worldwide impact. Tim Keller’s vision for his retirement was that Redeemer would separate into three churches that plant other churches creating a movement of the gospel with churches rooted in the neighborhood. We are in this phase of our history.

Redeemer split into East Side, West Side, and Downtown, and have each planted a church leading to now six redeemer congregations.

Location

“Life on the Upper East Side offers beautiful tree-lined streets and old buildings that give the neighborhood a timeless, elegant feel. Having Central Park just a few blocks away is a huge bonus; it’s my go-to spot for walks or runs with friends, picnics, or just some quiet time outdoors. I also love living so close to Museum Mile; places like the Met and the Guggenheim never get old, and it’s incredible to have so much culture right here in the neighborhood. There is a great mix of casual spots (slices abound!) and high-end shopping along Madison Avenue, as well as plenty of cozy cafés and restaurants where the owners and staff know my name. I love living on the Upper East Side!”
