Key Responsibilities
The XPA duties encompass leadership of staff and business operations, including:
Operational Leadership & Administration
- Overseeing the church’s day-to-day central support and operations, including IT, finance, budgeting, policy, legal compliance, governance, properties, facilities, communications, and fundraising.
- Serving as the Registered Agent of the corporation.
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborating with the Lead Pastor and Key Teams to cultivate and define the church’s mission, vision, and direction.
- Translating the mission and vision into actionable strategies and plans.
- Facilitating an annual strategic planning process that includes ministry evaluation, budget creation, and staffing resource allocation.
- Ensuring alignment of resources with the overall mission, vision, values, objectives, and goals of the Church.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Directly supervising the church management personnel who report to the XPA.
- Leading the staff to strategically develop, support, and execute processes vital to the mission and vision of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church (PVBC).
- Working closely with the Lead Pastor to build and cultivate a healthy staff and congregation by:
- Designing organizational structures and staffing models that align the staff with the mission, vision, and strategy of PVBC
- Guiding the staff through strategic goal setting and annual planning
- Focusing on development and continued growth in core job competencies
- Creating opportunities for staff encouragement, celebration, education, and inspiration
- Supporting the Lead Pastor in leading and planning all staff meetings
- Holding staff accountable for meeting objectives and initiating disciplinary action when required
Key Qualifications
- 10–15 years of progressive leadership and management experience, including executive-level operational leadership within a church, ministry, nonprofit, or similarly complex organization.
- Experience overseeing multiple organizational functions, including finance, human resources, facilities, IT, communications, and administration.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within an organization of comparable scale and complexity, including approximately $6M+ in annual operating budget and 40+ staff.
- Proven ability to translate vision into executable strategy, organizational priorities, and measurable plans.
- Experience successfully leading through organizational growth, change, and increasing operational complexity.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred
- Experience serving as an Executive Pastor, Executive Director, COO, or in a comparable executive leadership role within a growing church or ministry.
- Experience in strategic planning and organizational design.
- Experience leading through significant organizational growth and staffing expansion.
- Graduate degree in business, leadership, organizational development, theological studies, or a related field.
