Position Description

The Senior Minister will provide pastoral oversight and care to the church body, ensuring the spiritual well-being of the congregation.

They will offer organizational vision, leadership, and management to the entire church, aligning with its mission and values.

Serving as the primary teacher and communicator at weekend services, the Senior Minister will deliver biblically sound and engaging sermons.

They will collaborate with church leaders to develop and implement strategic plans that foster growth and community engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Elders in setting direction for the church, governing and protecting the congregation, and stewarding human and financial resources.
  • Ensure that each staff member is properly equipped, empowered, and resourced to perform their roles effectively.
  • Lead in the development, communication, and protection of the church’s vision, providing leadership and supporting the Leadership Team in strategic planning.
  • Champion the church’s values and model servant leadership, acting as the “first among equals” with other leaders.
  • Set an example in ensuring the church is properly fed, led, and cared for, including small group coaching and leadership development.
  • Serve as the primary communicator at weekend services, ensuring the teaching calendar is planned and scheduled in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that those teaching communicate Biblical Truth, spoken in love, fostering spiritual growth among congregants.
  • Engage with the community to build relationships and promote the church’s mission and outreach efforts.

 

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • A visionary leader who casts a compelling vision and leads through transition by inspiring others with a strong sense of ownership for church growth, impact, and engagement with the local community.
  • A collaborator capable of building a culture of unity among elders, staff, and volunteer leaders, fostering trust and effective fulfillment of the church’s vision.
  • An effective preacher who demonstrates both a gift and passion for living and preaching the Word of God as revealed in the Old and New Testaments in relevant and practical ways.
  • An individual with a minimum of five years of pastoral experience, preferably in a leadership role, demonstrating a track record of effective preaching, teaching, and leading.
  • A candidate with a degree in theology or a related field from an accredited seminary or divinity school is preferred, with additional relevant certification or ongoing theological education being desirable.
  • Someone who affirms the biblical model of elders leading the local church while recognizing the role of ministry leaders and the importance of community engagement, missions, and growing in Christ together.
