Student Pastor

The next Student Pastor at Mt. Airy will be a highly relational teacher who knows how to communicate the Gospel in relevant and creative ways. With an engaging personality, the Student Pastor will have the opportunity to build the student ministry and see the vision God lays on his heart come to fruition. With a heart for missions and a focus on the Gospel, the new Student Pastor will intentionally develop relationships with school personnel, coaches, creative arts teachers, and others in the school system. Additionally, the new Student Pastor will be challenged to equip and train student ministry leaders who will then minister directly to students. The right candidate will take the time to build community and trust while serving the team with practical training for discipleship in one-on-one settings, small groups, and large group gatherings. Mentoring and taking students deeper in their faith has been named a primary area of emphasis. The new Student Pastor will have complete freedom in designing and implementing a new program. The church, and student ministry, are poised for growth in the days ahead – Mt. Airy simply needs a strong leader with a vision to reach students and their families with the Gospel!

Key Responsibilities:

• Endeavor to win students (middle school, high school, and college) to CHRIST and aid in the development of their Christian lives.
• Lead in the involvement of students in the ongoing educational organizations and such projects as retreats, mission trips, camps, seminars, service projects, and special emphases dealing with special needs and interests of students.
• Prepare and conduct activities among the students which promote visitation, ministry, and outreach. These programs should include a program for leading students to a knowledge and understanding of the plan of salvation.
• Promote the programs of the church in areas of education, music, evangelism, worship, missions, and other emphases.
• Prepare and submit a timely annual student ministry budget for approval. Administer approved budget according to church policy.
• Participate with other staff members in a visitation program for all church members and families, especially students and their families, in times of illness, hospitalization, and crisis.
• Participate in general church outreach and evangelism programs.
• Engage in professional development or continuing education programs to keep abreast of up-to-date movements in the field of ministry and to sharpen personal skills.
• Develop and maintain appropriate one-on-one relationships with all students, including those not active in student activities.
• Become acquainted with parents through home visitation, and student-parent activities while encouraging parent support and participation in student activities.
• Keep students and their parents well-informed through announcements, calendars, and newsletters.
