Menlo Church

Director of Student Ministries / Saratoga Campus

Saratoga,

California

Why I Love This Opportunity

Kenny Conley

Associate

Menlo Church is building momentum like crazy right now, and it’s amazing to see all that God is doing in their midst! The last few years have certainly been challenging with how the pandemic affected the Bay Area. Still, Menlo is charging forward under the leadership of their new and energetic Sr. Pastor. The Saratoga Campus is being revitalized and ready to have a new Director of Student Ministry build a new ministry essentially from the ground up.

About This Organization

Menlo Church has a rich history that dates back to 1873 when thirteen men and women founded Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. Since then, we have benefitted from many people who have come before us and sacrificed their time, talent, and resources for future generations. After over a century of effective ministry to the community, the congregation voted to become part of the ECO denomination in 2014. Since then, we have planted several campuses and continue to adapt and follow the Lord’s leading as we strive to reach our community for Jesus.

Position Description

Student Ministries is the greatest opportunity at Menlo Church, and in many ways, it is a startup ministry with a core group of younger students and a dedicated group of core leaders. They are a highly relational ministry with small groups that support their weekly programming.  They value students being part of the larger church by encouraging them to serve on volunteer teams and worship with the rest of the church on Sunday mornings. The Director of Student Ministries will work with the Campus Pastor and other staff to cast vision, implement programming and services, and inspire others to love and follow Jesus more deeply. The Director of Student Ministries will focus on recruiting, training, shepherding, and developing student leaders and adult volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work as a cohesive unit with our Saratoga campus team.
  • Responsible for gathering high-capacity volunteers and equipping them for ministry in the church. Recognize talents and gifts and mentor and coach through the leadership pipeline. Lead, encourage, and develop volunteers through 1:1 or large group interactions.
  • As directed by the Campus Pastor, work with the Saratoga campus staff to plan and execute events and services to reach our community. Implement the Menlo Students strategy that draws middle and high school students to Menlo Church and launches them into a lifetime of faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Partner with parents in the spiritual development of their students.
  • Responsible for the safety of all students. Work with the Campus Administrator to ensure adult leaders are screened, participate in mandated training, and maintain healthy boundaries.
  • Shepherd and develop student leaders.
  • Oversee Student Ministry Life Groups split by gender and led by adult volunteers.
  • Oversee weekly student gatherings.
  • Establish and build positive working relationships with staff and administrators at Saratoga High School. Find a mutually beneficial way to be a physical presence on campus.
  • As needed, meet with the Central NextGen team and Student Ministry Directors from other locations to support one another and own ad hoc projects.
  • Manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and intelligently delegate.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships by actively living out and championing our staff values of being humble, hopeful, and gritty.
