The people of Houston Church are committed to their mission of “inspiring people to follow Jesus.” In this season, they are more passionate than ever about being a church that unchurched people want to attend, and the right Lead Pastor will have the adventure of a lifetime leading them on that journey!
In 2009, a small group started a partner location with North Point Church (now Irresistible Church Network). The original gathering was named Longleaf Church. Beginning in a living room, the church soon moved to a permanent location. In 2013, the attendance had grown to around 400-500 each Sunday. Up until 2017, the attendance plateaued but was still at a healthy level. Before COVID-19, the church raised money for a building campaign, purchased land, had plans drawn up, and was within weeks of beginning construction on a new facility. With Covid emerging, the Elders decided to postpone construction, and that proved to be wise, as many of their families did not return after the church reopened after the Covid shutdown. In late 2020, Houston Church’s Lead Pastor resigned, and in early 2021, Houston Church became a campus of Lake Oconee Church, also a Northpoint Partner.
The relationship with Lake Oconee Church has ended, and a core group of people (about 70) have decided to rebuild Houston Church. They acquired a temporary facility while searching for their next Lead Pastor. They are well-funded and committed to supporting their next Lead Pastor with the staff he needs to plant a church that every community needs.
While Houston Church is not currently viewed as a Partner Church with Northpoint, it desires to become one again. It has a long-standing positive relationship with the Irresistible Church Network (ICN). Once it hires its next lead pastor, Houston Church plans to transition to a Northpoint Church Plant Consultant.
Currently, Houston Church has a committed group of members who are certain in their calling to continue their mission of “inspiring people to follow Jesus.” Houston Church’s vision is to be a church that unchurched people want to attend, and it’s with great excitement that they seek their next Lead Pastor.
