Love God, love people, and serve the world, for Jesus Christ.
Huron River Methodist is home to a highly relational and joy-filled staff team that loves doing ministry together. They’re authentic, down-to-earth, and know how to laugh—valuing moments of fun and connection just as much as hard work and excellence. The team genuinely cares for one another and for the volunteers they serve alongside, creating an environment where people are encouraged, supported, and continually growing both personally and spiritually.
Senior Pastor Matt Hook has faithfully served the church for 22 years, beginning when the staff included just two pastors, a secretary, and a part-time keyboardist. Over the years, he has guided the congregation through multiple seasons of growth—maximizing the campus, expanding ministries, and adding staff strategically to support long-term vision and health.
Matt takes the mission of the church seriously, but not himself. With a Doctorate in Ministry from Asbury Seminary, his lighthearted mantra is, “Get a degree and then get over it.” His passion is simple yet profound: to reach heaven and bring as many people with him as possible—creating abundant opportunities for others to use their gifts in ministry along the way.
Beyond his local leadership, Matt has been active in preaching, teaching, leading worship, and facilitating workshops for World Methodist Evangelism. He has also helped launch the Global Methodist Church and provides encouragement and support to fellow pastors.
Matt and his wife, Leigh, have four adult children and five young grandchildren. Over the years, their family has also opened their home to children from developing countries who come to the University of Michigan for life-saving surgeries before returning to their families—an expression of the hospitality and compassion that define their ministry.
