About This Organization

Hope Church began in 1979 in a living room, when a group of families from First Evangelical Free Church of St. Paul (now Maplewood) felt called to plant a new church in Oakdale, on the east side of the Twin Cities metro. From those early gatherings, the church grew into a rented space and eventually into a building of its own, well positioned to serve the growing suburbs around it. Over more than four decades, Hope has been shepherded by just two senior pastors and one worship pastor, who retired a year ago after more than 35 years of faithful ministry. That kind of longevity has shaped who we are: a congregation rooted in deep relationships, steady leadership, and a long view of God’s work among us.

Today Hope is a healthy generational mix, with grandparents, parents, young adults, students, and children all worshiping together on Sunday mornings. Our adult, youth, and children’s ministries are vibrant, and we see kids and teens not as the church of tomorrow but as part of the church right now. Worship has long been a distinctive strength at Hope, and it remains central to who we are as we gather each week. Our music and tech teams are made up of high-capacity volunteers who are regularly using their gifts.

If you asked our people what they love most about Hope, many would point to community. We want to be a place that turns strangers into family, where someone walking in for the first time finds a seat next to someone who will know their name next week, and where the gospel is lived out in ordinary friendships, shared meals, and care through hard seasons. As we look toward the next chapter at Hope, we’re praying for a leader who will help us continue to grow as a community that loves God, loves each other, and welcomes others in.
