Some churches claim to “strive for excellence.” While this statement has scared me, I saw it played out in my few days onsite with Foothills. It wasn’t that everything was excellent; I simply could see that people cared about their work. From well-maintained facilities to the quality and depth of conversations, I can see that Foothills really wants to be who they say they are and glorify the Lord in all they do.
In many ways, Foothills has been built in and through successful youth ministry and youth ministers! Trent Stewart got his ministry start by being a Student Pastor—several of the Foothills staff are former students of Trent’s as well! Knowing the Lead Pastor is going to be highly supportive of the Student Ministries should be a huge reason why a candidate would want to be here!
Pastor Trent Stewart and his wife, Micah, planted Foothills Church in 2009 in Maryville, TN. Starting in a local school, they purchased a permanent building two years later. Over twelve years, the church grew in attendance, baptized new believers, and planted a church in Washington, DC. In 2018, they bought land to build a 1,200-seat worship facility and remodeled the original building in 2021. That year, they also launched a second location in Knoxville. Pre-COVID attendance was 1,800; it is now at 2,100.
Foothills Church, a healthy and growing community, celebrated Easter with over 4,000 attendees. They focus on creating innovative worship experiences with state-of-the-art facilities. In 2021, they launched a Knoxville campus in a middle school, later moving to a remodeled theater. Committed to raising the next generation, they are excited about new opportunities in Student Ministries.
The Global Student Pastor will work with all other Student Ministry team members across all campuses to set the vision and direction of the student ministry. He will serve as the lead Student Pastor at the Maryville Campus of Foothills.
The Global Student Pastor will lead the student ministry staff, volunteers, and students to become mature followers of Christ through relational environments. You win when your team is equipped, empowered, and inspired to reach students & families.
