The Midweek Worship Minister of First Miami Presbyterian Church has an incredible opportunity to dream, design, and develop in partnership with the Senior Pastor and implement a midweek service. This opportunity is designed for a creative and musical leader who possesses a builder and visionary mindset!
Iterations of what the Midweek Service could be include:
– Midweek Prayer and Worship Service
– Midweek Modern-Liturgy Service infusing ancient and contemporary together
– Service in Spanish or Portuguese (representing two very large demographics in the area)
– Acoustic or Acoustic and Strings service with candles and communion
– Service geared toward college students (the University of Miami is close by)

About This Organization

First Miami is the oldest standing church in Miami. This beautiful historic brick and stained glass building is surrounded by skyscrapers and situated right on the bay in the heart of Brickell, the financial district of Miami. Numerous tourists walk by every day, and thousands of people live within walking distance of First Miami. Due to the heavy foot traffic, First Miami has found that simply by adding a new service, a new influx of people find First Miami and make it their church home. Position Description

The Midweek Worship Minister will have a “let’s try” attitude while working in tandem with Pastor Chris to dream up, explore and implement a Midweek Service at First Miami. This leader will be open to tweaking and adjusting as the church and leadership together assess how well a certain iteration of a midweek service is going. This leader will have a pioneer mindset and will be a builder, activator, and implementor. The Midweek Worship Minister will join a worship staff comprised of the Senior Pastor, Classical Worship Director, and the Contemporary Worship Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet regularly with the Pastor/Head of Staff to plan and evaluate mid-week and special services that align with overall vision, objectives, and ideas of FMPC to maximize the worship experience.
  • Provide continual recruitment, developmental support and mentoring to team members.
  • Development and manage budgets for midweek worship and special events.
  • Serve as a substitute for other FMPC worship services as needed.
  • Identifies cultural trends, social issues, and topics that are relevant to our community and incorporates them into services.
  • Work with the AV and hospitality teams to manage the design/staging resources and elements that the church has, or will acquire, for use in the auditorium.
  • Collaborate with Pastor/Head of Staff for worship services.
  • Creating worship experiences where a significant majority of the congregation is actively participating.
  • Create a seamless experience that supports the message content and encourages attendees to respond to God.
  • Take initiative in adding, replacing, and repairing technical equipment and instruments as well as making improvements to the room decor and overall environment.
  • Respond to emails, phone calls, and texts in a timely manner.

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • A passion for helping people worship God
  • A passion for helping people grow in the love of Christ
  • Ability to lead worship vocally and from an instrument (keys or guitar preferred)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience working in a worship ministry
  • Ability to successfully pass a Background Check
  • Willingness to work within the Reformed Tradition and abide by PC(USA) polity
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Active member of FMPC (Preferred)
