Worship Pastor

The successful candidate will be a trained musician who is a relational and humble leader. This person should love developing others, watching them grow, and empowering them to lead.

From the platform, the new Worship Pastor should be authentic and lead with joy and enthusiasm. First Light is a multigenerational congregation, and this person should genuinely desire to engage with people of all ages and lead in a way that will unify this diverse range of people.

While musical skill and administrative competence are important to the role of the Worship Pastor, relational chemistry with the staff team and congregation is equally important. Someone who leads from the heart with an authentic passion is desired. Strong platform skills are needed, but this person must also be relational on and off the stage. Production is not valued here as highly as relational connection and “authenticity.” The new Worship Pastor should lead with godly humility, having an observable love for the Lord and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Key Responsibilities:

LEAD AND PLAN

• Lead, plan, and direct all corporate worship gatherings at First Light.
• Lead and champion worship ministry and its leaders.
• In tandem with the Teaching Team, plan and coordinate worship ministry at First Light in a manner aligned with its culture, ministry philosophy, identity, and direction.
• Contribute to shaping worship ministry within a multigenerational, multisite church dynamic.

CONNECT AND CARE

• Model and promote worship team members living out the church’s identity and direction and a lifestyle of worship beyond leading on Sunday mornings.
• Oversee and carry out leadership identification and development within worship ministry that fits within First Light’s broader leadership development approach.
• Actively recruit, audition, train, and coach worship team members to serve in the ministry area.
• Provide and facilitate regular opportunities to meet with worship team members for times of team building, prayer, care, and service.
• Be attentive and respond to pastoral care needs that arise within the Vandalia worship team, as well as First Light Church, as requested and assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work within the series planning framework and standards for collaboration, song selection, and team member scheduling and communication.
• Develop and grow in personal and spiritual leadership along with musical expertise and knowledge.
• Participate in weekly Campus Ministry Team meetings and monthly all-staff meetings.

PERSONAL

• Participate in the strategy of First Light Church by being regularly involved in a small group and areas of serving inside and outside of the church.
• Maintain God-ordained priorities in your life by keeping Jesus Christ first, your spouse second, your children third, and your ministry fourth.
• Give at least ten percent of your income to the vision of First Light Church;
• Be loyal to the vision, staff, and leaders of First Light Church, and always protect the unity of the church.
