First Baptist Church Spartanburg

Youth Minister

Greenville,
South Carolina
First Baptist Spartanburg is seeking a full-time, skilled Youth Minister who can lead leaders while personally engaging students. We are looking for a passionate, energetic leader with significant experience guiding a youth ministry of 200 or more students in regular attendance, someone ready to steward and grow a thriving ministry. This person will oversee The Hangar, our 60,000 square foot Student Center, which is fully designed for modern youth ministry and includes a 650 seat auditorium, classrooms for large and small groups, café space, volleyball and basketball courts, and outdoor gathering areas. This role offers a healthy annual budget and the opportunity to build a strong team, ideal for a leader who values discipleship, relational ministry, and partnership with families and volunteers to shape the next generation.

Why We Love This Opportunity

I love this opportunity because of the potential. FBCS has incredible students, strong families, and a church that is genuinely excited about the next generation. The right leader won’t have to build from scratch, but they will have the chance to shape something meaningful and lasting in a place that truly cares about its youth.

A great match for this position would be:

  • Spiritually Mature: Demonstrates a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and adherence to biblical principles.
  • Relationally Driven: Invests in authentic relationships with students, families, and volunteers.
  • Creative and Visionary: Brings innovative ideas for reaching youth in today’s culture.
  • Team-Oriented: Works collaboratively with staff and volunteers to fulfill the mission of the church.
  • Resilient and Adaptable: Able to navigate challenges and changes with grace and flexibility.
  • Servant Leader: Leads by example, modeling humility, integrity, and a heart for service.

About This Organization

We are a 186-year-old Southern Baptist Church with an amazing history of God’s faithfulness and blessing. Over the last 3 years our church has experienced a significant season of change as many of the long-term lead staff members have retired – some after 30+ years of faithful ministry. God brought our senior pastor, Dr Mike Harder, to our church in August of 2023. We are in a season of significant growth; both in our church and in our community. Spartanburg is one of the top 10 fastest growing areas in the US. We are in a 2-year building campaign that demolished 105K sq ft of ministry space and will build back 50K sq ft to include a new children’s facility, new lobby and entrances to our church. This project will transform our church and create great space for ministry in the years ahead. We also have a TV/Media ministry that reaches 100K people per week. Furthermore, we will go multi-site in the next 24-36 months.

Location

“It’s exploding. We have up to 30–40 people a day moving to Spartanburg County. But at the same time, it still feels small town. It’s close enough to bigger cities — Greenville, Charlotte, Atlanta — but still feels like home.”
