First Baptist Matthews turns 150 next year, and God has faithfully used this church to proclaim the Gospel and serve Matthews throughout that history. Located directly across from Stumptown Park in historic downtown, the church has long been a visible, trusted presence in town. Today around 450 to 500 gather each weekend and the number keeps climbing. A new Senior Pastor is just under a year into his role, and the fruit is showing: 48 new members since January, 18 baptisms this year against four the year before, roughly 700 on Easter Sunday, and a community Easter egg hunt that drew more than 1,500 people. The Weekday Preschool has introduced generations of families to the church and is still how many people first know it, and the church shares a property line and a real partnership with Matthews Elementary next door. This fall the church begins the move to an elder-led governance model and rolls out a refreshed mission statement and set of values. This is a church with deep roots, real momentum, and a clear sense of where God is leading. The next Worship Pastor won’t simply inherit a ministry. They’ll have the opportunity to shape its future and help lead the church into its next season.
First Baptist Matthews is looking for a Worship Pastor to lead and shape the next season of a growing, multi-generational church in the heart of downtown Matthews. This is not a role for someone content to maintain what already exists. The vision is worship that brings every generation together and encourages the whole congregation to sing, respond, and engage in worship. The church is in a real season of momentum: a new Senior Pastor just under a year in, 48 new members since January, 18 baptisms this year against four last year, and roughly 700 gathered on Easter Sunday. The next Worship Pastor steps into that momentum and helps set the tone for what comes next, leading a choir, worship team, instrumentalists, and production volunteers toward Sundays where the whole room is singing.
