Dunwoody Baptist Church (DBC) is a place where people are passionately becoming more like Jesus and are committed to experiencing transformation throughout their home, community, church, and world. The church has an active membership of nearly 1,400 people and an annual general fund budget of $3.8million. The church is in a healthy season of growth and leadership abundance as it seeks to call a new Senior Pastor following the recent retirement of beloved Senior Pastor Alan Jackson.

DBC has a strong history of supporting missions and sending its members locally, nationally, and internationally. This is demonstrarted through 17% of its budget being designated for misisons and supporting 47 different local and global ministires. DBC is committed to being a multigenerational, multicultural and multinational church. It is also an everyday community hub of great relevance with a variety of community-oriented programs hosted on-campus.

Position Description

The Senior Pastor is the spiritual leader for Dunwoody Baptist Church, the primary leader for the church and Ministerial Staff, and the primary teacher of God’s Word at Dunwoody Baptist Church.

The Senior Pastor is assisted in these roles by lead staff members for business and ministry areas. The Senior Pastor’s role in the administrative functions of DBC (i.e., office and administration, fund-raising, pastoral care provider, etc.), should not become so primary as to interfere with proper study time and teaching opportunities, so that he may lead the church’s growth and spiritual well-being, through presentations and life examples.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To preach, teach, and live the Word of God, ensuring the planning and presentation of meaningful worship experiences
  • To provide vision and direction to the Church, and to help formulate and foster the implementation and growth of the Church’s strategies and goals
  • To live the life of a model disciple, engaging in a vibrant prayer life
  • To evaluate the evolving needs of the congregation and work to strengthen the present ministries in keeping with those needs
  • To serve as the leader of the Church Leadership Team, and as ex-officio member of all Church organizations and committees – consulting, advising, and becoming active in these groups as needs arise, and appointing subordinate staff members as committee leaders and representatives, as required
