Crossroads Church is poised for what God has for them in this next chapter of ministry and is ready for the next season of increased spiritual growth and impact in the communities where it currently serves. The people are passionate about missional service, remaining a connected intergenerational family, and reaching the next generation of future Kingdom leaders through their children’s and student ministries.
Crossroads Church is a place of hope and is positioned for an influential future in Pittsburgh. This is an effective church with strong facilities, a talented staff, healthy finances, and a desire to grow fruitful ministries in their community and beyond. Crossroads was launched on September 29, 1991, by a small group of people who wanted to bring the love of Jesus to the West Hills of Pittsburgh. That small group was led by Pastor Steve Cordle and met for worship in the Tonidale Restaurant Banquet Room. In 1995, it opened its first facility in North Fayette Township, built mostly by volunteers. In the early 2000s, Crossroads started to emphasize a cell-based model, leaning into both celebration (weekend worship) and cells (holistic small groups).
2005 Crossroads started its first multi-site location in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. A location in the North Hills followed in 2010. By this time, the original facility in North Fayette was beyond capacity, and Crossroads opened a 500-seat worship area addition in 2012. In 2014, a new location in Weirton, West Virginia, opened. In 2020, Crossroads re-emphasized its focus on cells, even shifting the language from multisite locations to being the church in many regions, with hubs (buildings) throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
The Lead Pastor must be an excellent, engaging, and passionate teacher. He or she must speak the truth of scripture to culture and believe the Bible is the final authority on faith and practice. Crossroads is known for teaching God’s Word in a way that appeals to both believers and nonbelievers. Currently, the church utilizes a shared teaching team approach, of which the Lead Pastor would be the anchor, but local Regional Pastors preach live on a weekly basis from a shared centrally-prepared sermon.
