Located in the city center of Durham, North Carolina, Christ Central Church has been living on a mission from its inception almost nine years ago. As part of the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) denominational family, they’ve got solid roots in the Gospel while also working to be seeker-friendly and relevant. Average weekly attendance is right around 1,000, and they are gathering momentum.

They’ve weathered some storms, seen God’s faithfulness, and can’t wait to see what God has planned for the future.

Position Description

The Pastor/Director of Local and Global Engagement will lead the church in being on mission and loving your neighbor as yourself. This individual will work closely with the Executive Pastor and
Senior Pastor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calling and equipping the church to give their life away
  • Infusing mission into all facets of the church community
  • Overseeing the church’s city engagement in terms of mercy ministry and faith & work
  • Creating clear onramps for congregants to be on mission both individually and corporately
  • Giving direction to and helping to lead the church’s Diaconate and Missions Team
  • Cultivating a zeal for evangelism inside the church and equipping congregants to evangelize
  • Fostering new missional initiatives
  • Providing oversight and support for our in-house Community Care initiatives
  • Oversees the church’s partnership with Triangle Fellows
  • Assisting congregants in partnering with our external partners
  • Coordinating and collaborating with our missional partners (both locally and globally)
  • Meeting with in-house ministry leads and ministry partners regularly
  • Assisting other staff members and leaders in thinking around mission in their areas

  • Past ministry experience
  • Love for the Gospel
  • Love for a City like Durham
  • A heart for non-Christians and the marginalized
  • Passionate about the vision and mission of Christ Central Church.
  • Excited about our staff values – camaraderie, collaboration, and prayerfulness.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience on the mission field or in the Mercy and Justice Ministry
  • Experience working in a church
  • Charisma and comfort in welcoming people hoping to get involved
  • It is not necessary to be ordained or pursuing ordination in the PCA, but they are open to ordained candidates for this role
