I love Chinese Community Church and their vision and passion for helping people better experience and share God’s love. This is a great opportunity to serve and lead a multiethnic and multigenerational church that is biblically sound and has a heart for their surrounding community and the world. One of the most appealing aspects of CCC is their welcoming atmosphere and their multi-generational approach to ministry. As they seek their next Lead Pastor, they are in a season of health which makes this one of the most exciting opportunities in the nation!
Founded in 1924, Chinese Community Church shared space in a converted residence originally on 5th and P Streets and then a few years later, moved to 519 N Street. In 1939, the fifteenth year of CCC’s early history, a severe storm seriously damaged the church, forcing it to be demolished. With the help of the Reformed Church in America, the congregation built a new two-story structure which enabled the church to grow.
The church continued to thrive through the mid-1940s, but after WWII, many Chinese were now able to move into the suburbs away from the downtown church, causing its numbers to decrease. mFor several years, the church struggled. In the late 1940s the consistory made the decision to implement a plan to move the church to a new location. With the help of the RCA again, the church built a new sanctuary and education building at its present site in 1951. And in 2007, CCC renovated and built a new education building and added larger kitchen facilities as well as a gym/ fellowship center.
CCC has been blessed with a congregation that is diverse in age, ethnicity, spiritual maturity, education, and financial position. We are seeking a Christ-centered, Spirit-filled pastor who has a passion for preaching, who proclaims the gospel effectively, and who brings out the power of Scripture clearly and plainly.
The exhortation of the gospel message to recognize our human brokenness and sin, to exalt the Savior, Jesus Christ, and to promote holiness is needed now more than ever. We desire someone who not only has experience in preaching and teaching, but also has leadership and oversight skills.
Above all, we would like a pastor who can continue ministering to our elderly members but also can reach out to young families, someone who will shepherd the congregation and reach out to those who do not yet know Christ.
