With a new Senior Pastor having just celebrated his 1 year anniversary and on the verge of launching a building program that will include adding over 30,000 sq ft of new children’s ministry space, First Baptist is excited about reaching families and looking for their children’s ministry to be a catalyst of growth for the church. About This Organization

First Baptist Spartanburg is a downtown church that is fully committed to being a downtown church and serving this growing, dynamic and diverse area for the sake of Jesus! The church currently sees about 2,000 people attending on Sundays with around 200 kids.

Position Description

The minister to children is responsible to the church for oversight and planning ministry offerings for children grades 1-5 and their families. This position would provide vision, training, and support for leaders, parents, and children. The overall goal is to build relationships while providing tools and resources to develop resilient disciples, Christ followers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Children’s Ministry Team by setting an example of loving God and loving people well.
  • Plan and implement a yearly calendar in partnership with the lead team.
  • Identify and provide curricula for all our weekly ministry offerings for elementary children.
  • Attend weekly FBS leadership team meetings.
  • Invest in and develop current leaders through prayer, fellowship, and training.
  • Provide a welcoming and safe environment for families.


What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • A personal sense of calling from God to vocational Christian ministry in general and to this area of ministry.
  • Can identify closely with the mission, values, vision, theology, philosophy, and methodology of First Baptist Church.
  • A mature Christian who is demonstrates the Fruit of the Spirit, is growing in their faith and is committed to spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading and prayer.
  • The proven ability to identify, equip and lead a team of volunteers.
  • Ability to collaborate, cooperate and function well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
