First Baptist Spartanburg is a downtown church that is fully committed to being a downtown church and serving this growing, dynamic and diverse area for the sake of Jesus! The church currently sees about 2,000 people attending on Sundays with around 200 kids.

Position Description

The Family Ministries Pastor is responsible to the church for oversight and planning ministry oThe role provides spiritual, strategic and leadership oversight to execute the Family Ministry portion of saturating Spartanburg, the Carolina’s and the World with the Gospel. This is a “leader of leader’s” role and provides direct oversight for Birth through Fifth Grade Children’s Ministry, paid staff and volunteers and Pre-School staff.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet regularly with Family Ministry Staff for leadership development, coaching, planning and ministry alignment.
  • Determine Scope and Sequence for all curriculum and resources to create a clear and comprehensive spiritual development model for children.
  • Clarify the purpose, align the staff and provide leadership for the weekday (Monday – Friday) Preschool/Daycare Ministry.
  • Plan and implement a yearly calendar in partnership with the lead team.
  • Provide a welcoming and safe environment for families.
  • Research and future-cast ministry trends, growth needs and issues that will impact ministry in the coming 18-36 months.

  • A personal sense of calling from God to vocational Christian ministry in general and to this area of ministry.
  • Can identify closely with the mission, values, vision, theology, philosophy, and methodology of First Baptist Church.
  • A mature Christian who is demonstrates the Fruit of the Spirit, is growing in their faith and is committed to spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading and prayer.
  • The proven ability to identify, equip and lead a team of volunteers.
  • Ability to collaborate, cooperate and function well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
