
This Executive Pastor role has the freedom to begin leading on day one. Because of Central Church’s health and unity, this next leader will find a team with a high level of readiness for a people-oriented ministry developer to bring specialized, senior-level leadership to integrate the church’s mission of maturing and multiplying disciples. In coordination with the Lead Teaching Pastor and the Elder Council, this leader will find ample opportunity to help bolster the people and operational systems and cultivate an ethos of deeper collaboration with staff and key leaders across the church. Central Church was born out of the revivalism of the Second Great Awakening and held its first worship service on October 22, 1896. Located in Collierville, Tennessee, Central has seen God’s gracious hand over its nearly 130 years of ministry. Under the leadership of Dr. Matt Shackleford and the church’s unified Elder Council, over the last three years, Central has given significant attention focused on refining healthy governance systems and building dynamic teams to shepherd the body of Central. With a clear call and a strong desire to equip the body to multiply and mature disciples, Central Church aims to continue its robust history and swiftly move into the next chapter of Gospel influence in the greater Memphis area and beyond.
In coordination with the Lead Teaching Pastor, the Executive Pastor will lead in building and shepherding a biblical community of Christ followers at Central Church. By seeing his role as one that empowers fellow ministry leaders to accomplish their goals, he will bring a strategic, collaborative leadership style that helps release the Lead Teaching Pastor to greater attention on vision, preaching, and tending to the Gospel-based ministry needs within the congregation and community. The Executive Pastor will act as a wise shepherd to the staff and a trusted ministry partner to the Lead Teaching Pastor and Elders. Through his role, the church will continue expanding its capacity for being mobilized in ministry while deepening its love for the things of Christ.
