Apostles Houston

Children's Pastor

Houston,
Texas
Each member of the staff serves to advance our vision: to be a church rooted in the gospel, shaped by the Anglican tradition, and sent out for the glory of God and the life of the world. The Children’s Pastor plays a vital role in nurturing the faith and formation of children and families at Apostles Houston. As a pastoral and programmatic leader, this person guides the spiritual growth and discipleship of children from birth through fifth grade while resourcing and supporting their parents. This Children’s Pastor helps children know, love, and follow Jesus through thoughtful teaching, meaningful community, and joyful worship, forming them within the rhythms of the church’s life. The Children’s Pastor partners closely with parents, volunteers, and clergy to ensure the children’s ministry reflects the Anglican identity and vision of Apostles. Because Apostles serves as a resource church, the Children’s Pastor also helps cultivate and share best practices in children’s ministry that can strengthen other congregations across the city and state through shared learning and encouragement.

Why We Love This Opportunity

I love this opportunity because it places children and families at the heart of the church’s life, forming faith early through Scripture, prayer, worship, and joy. The integration of Anglican theology with age appropriate teaching reflects a deep commitment to shaping not just programs, but lasting spiritual roots. I am especially drawn to the strong partnership with parents, equipping them as primary spiritual guides while surrounding them with a supportive church community. The vision to build healthy volunteer teams, create safe and welcoming environments, and resource other churches makes this role both deeply pastoral and meaningfully expansive.

A great match for this position would be:

  • A spiritually mature follower of Jesus with a clear calling to ministry with children and families, rooted in prayer, Scripture, and the gospel.
  • A warm and engaging teacher who communicates biblical truth in age appropriate, joyful, and theologically faithful ways.
  • A proven leader who recruits, trains, and shepherds volunteers, building healthy teams marked by trust, safety, and shared purpose.
  • A pastorally wise partner to parents who equips and encourages them in the faith formation of their children.
  • A highly organized and attentive leader who manages programs, communication, and safeguarding practices with excellence and care.

About This Organization

Church of the Apostles began in 2013 with a clear commitment to worship, Scripture, hospitality, and lay engagement, forming a strong foundation from its earliest days. The church experienced steady growth and developed a deep volunteer culture marked by welcome and community. A relocation to the Heights in 2016–2017 expanded its reach and brought greater geographic and social diversity into the congregation. Over time, Apostles became a church drawing people from varied backgrounds and life rhythms, requiring greater clarity around community and discipleship.

Following the conclusion of the second rector’s ministry in 2023, the church navigated a season of interim leadership with resilience and unity. During that time, attendance recovered, giving remained strong, and lay and staff leaders carried responsibility with maturity. Since the arrival of the current rector in August 2024, the church has entered a season of rapid growth, with increased worship attendance, new members, and a strong presence of young families. Today, Apostles is recognized for its welcoming culture, Christ-centered worship, faithful preaching, and deep relationships that continue to draw people into the life of the church.
