The Summit Church summarizes its mission through four clear emphases.
- Gospel: The Summit prioritizes the gospel above all. The gospel is not simply one ministry emphasis among many. It is the identity and center of the church.
- Reach: The Summit is committed to doing whatever it takes to reach all people with the gospel. The church carries what it calls a “gospel greed” for one more person and seeks to reach a megacity rather than simply build a megachurch.
- Disciple: The Summit makes disciples, not just converts. The church’s discipleship language emphasizes worshipers, family members, servants, stewards, and witnesses as marks of whole life formation.
- Send: The Summit sends every member and calls the church to Live Sent. The church connects this sending identity to the mission of Jesus and expresses it through serving the campus, serving the city, and serving the world.
Provide Vision and Direction: The Director will provide clear spiritual and strategic leadership for student ministry at the Capital Hills Campus. This includes helping parents, students, volunteers, staff members, and the congregation understand the ministry’s direction and how they can participate in it.
Lead and Develop the Student Ministry Team: The Director will oversee the campus student ministry staff and assist the Campus Pastor and Campus Executive Pastor in the personal, spiritual, and professional development of team members. The Director should cultivate a healthy team environment marked by trust, accountability, collaboration, and shared ownership.
Recruit, Equip, and Care for Volunteers: A central responsibility of this role is building a strong volunteer culture. The Director must be highly disciplined in identifying potential leaders, inviting them into ministry, equipping them for success, evaluating their effectiveness, and providing ongoing encouragement and pastoral care.
Oversee Student Ministry Programs: The Director will oversee all campus-level student ministry programs, including Middle School Small Groups, Elevate, High School Small Groups, and other events for students, parents, and volunteers. The goal is not merely excellent programming but environments that contribute to evangelism, discipleship, community, and leadership development.
Partner with Parents: The Director will treat parents as essential partners in the discipleship of their teenagers. This includes maintaining clear communication, building trust, providing resources, listening to concerns, and helping parents navigate the spiritual and cultural challenges facing students.
Communicate Clearly and Consistently: The Director will spearhead communication with students, parents, staff members, and volunteers. In a large ministry context, timely and thoughtful communication is essential for building confidence, reducing confusion, and maintaining alignment.
Collaborate Across the Church: The Director will serve as a member of the campus family ministry team alongside the Kids Pastor. This person will also work in partnership with centralized student ministry leaders, offer constructive feedback concerning central resources, and participate in broader church initiatives when needed.
Engage the Community: The Director will build relationships beyond the walls of the church, particularly with local schools, coaches, educators, families, and community leaders. These partnerships should create natural opportunities for evangelism, service, outreach, and meaningful engagement with students who are not yet connected to the church.
