Position Description

The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is responsible for creating the vision, mission and strategy for the development function, ultimately to enable the scale up of sustainable community justice transformation projects across South Asia and into new countries. The Chief Advancement Officer will be a chief spokesperson representing the organization to constituencies, both internal and external. He/she will manage a development team, and will function well in a balanced culture that combines the richness and relevance of programs with the efficacy of best business practices, fiscal accountability, and institutional impact.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the CEO, COO and Board of Directors to support the implementation of our 5-year strategic plan and annual plans, including maintaining and monitoring the cumulative pipeline for all revenue and ensuring accuracy of projections
  • Builds out the foundations/grants strategy, ensuring that existing foundations continue to experience excellence in reporting and continued vision for future partnership, while also ensuring new foundation prospects are researched, qualified, cultivated and solicited with customized letters of intent and proposals
  • Supervises, mentors and grows the major donor team, ensuring Major Gifts Officers are supported with moves management, data insights, segmented communications and product offerings that result in a transformational giving experience for major donors over the long term
  • Supervises and collaborates with Senior Communications Officer and relevant contractors in ensuring all audiences are effectively engaged with clear messaging and compelling product offerings that convey JVI’s distinctive vision and impact, with a focus on supporting core fundraising strategies while also positioning JVI to build out its Friend of Freedom program
  • Takes on and grows a portfolio of existing and prospective major donors and foundations and models best practice in donor care and cultivation, including weekly moves management and regular travel
  • Supports the CEO with moves management of his portfolio of major donors and foundations, and strategically leverages the CEO to meet the needs of other portfolios
  • Oversees the design, coordination and execution of cultivation events, field visits and vision trips for foundation staff and major donors
