Position Description

Shiloh Baptist Church is seeking a dedicated and spiritually grounded Senior Pastor to
lead our congregation in faith, growth, and service. The Senior Pastor will oversee the
church’s spiritual direction, administration, and outreach efforts. This individual must
have a deep personal relationship with God and a passion for evangelism, discipleship,
and community engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership and Preaching

  • Prepare and deliver biblically sound, inspiring, and engaging sermons.Lead the congregation in prayer, the study of God’s Word in a spirit of worship.
  • Foster a culture of spiritual growth through Christian education, discipleship, and mentorship.

Evangelism and Outreach

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for evangelism, discipleship, and missions locally.
  • Encourage and facilitate outreach initiatives that welcome individuals from the surrounding communities and cities.
  • Lead efforts to bring the lost to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

Church Growth and Vision

  • Provide a clear vision for church growth and work with leadership to establish short- and long-term goals.
  • Develop and oversee programs that support membership retention, engagement, and expansion.
  • Prioritize ministry efforts for children and youth, ensuring a strong foundation for the next generation.

Pastoral Care and Counseling

  • Offer pastoral counseling professionally and confidentially.
  • Conduct hospital and home visitations for members in need.
  • Support and guide church members through life challenges while upholding biblical principles.

Administration and Leadership

  • Oversee the church’s operations, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
    Supervise and support church staff, both paid and volunteer, to effectively execute church programs.
  • Collaborate with the deacon board and personnel committee, participating in annual performance reviews.
  • Manage church resources responsibly, contributing to budgeting and financial oversight.

 

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong biblical knowledge and the ability to effectively interpret and teach Scripture.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in sermon preparation, delivery, counseling, and church administration.
  • Ability to foster unity and inspire a congregation toward collective spiritual growth.
    Experience and Education
  • A minimum of three years of pastoral experience is preferred, including preaching, counseling, budgeting, and visitation ministry.
  • Bachelor of Divinity degree or higher preferred, though not required.
  • Additional training in family counseling is a plus.
