Located in America’s most ethnically diverse county, over 90 different nationalities are represented among Sugar Creek Baptist Church’s congregation. Their style of music is modern, and their approach in worship is to identify with others culturally without compromising the gospel message. This is an opportunity for a talented and gifted leader to work in a growing, relevant ministry while leading the worship culture on their own campus with exceptional support from a great team, all while living in an exciting community!
Sugar Creek Baptist Church is on a mission “to love and lead all people to life change in Christ.” Located in suburban Houston, TX, the church has grown steadily in its 45-year history. This multisite church has weekly attendance averaging 4600 across three campuses and a fourth campus in a local prison. Everything Sugar Creek does is expressed by six core values that guide its daily decision-making and planning. These are: 1. Truth Matters; 2. Total Dependence on God; 3. High Expectation; 4. Eternal Impact; 5. Mutual Respect; and 6. Generational Relevance.
Corporate worship is a priority at Sugar Creek, and the worship ministry is known for excellence and authenticity with strong platform leadership. Worship gatherings include elements of music, creative arts, and technology used to communicate and inspire. Depending on the service or campus attended worshippers may see a choir, orchestra, band, or a mix of all three onstage. On the Missouri City campus, three gathering times are offered each Sunday at 8:00 am, 9:30 am, and 11:00 am. All are modern in musical style and feature engaging worship, life-changing teaching, and connection through strong, meaningful relationships. Combined, about 700-800 adults attend this campus each weekend and the congregation is extremely diverse ethnically. The Missouri City campus is growing and they see about 25-30 new guests per month. To accommodate the growth, they are nearing the start of a campus expansion project to include a new children’s space, worship center, and outdoor baptistry area. Overall, the project will more than double their current space.
The Missouri City Campus Worship Pastor will oversee all things related to musical worship and the weekend gatherings on the campus. This includes leadership of the band and vocal teams and the technical production (audio, video, and lighting). The new leader will work with the Global Worship Pastor, Campus Pastor, and staff in carrying out the vision and purpose of the worship ministry to lead Sugar Creek in spirit and truth worship (John 4:23-24) and develop, recruit, and train up worship leaders. This campus utilizes a small worship choir. It is not a traditional choir, and the new hire does not need to be a “choral person.” But the new leader should appreciate what the choir brings to the collective worship gathering and be a champion for this.
