This presents a unique opportunity for Good News to help people build their lives on the reality of Jesus. With just over 3,000 this past Easter—Good News is looking for a Student Ministry Director to pour into the children, students, and families who visit and call this place home, as they live out their mission. Good News Church is a Free Methodist Church with three Sunday morning services and a thriving Wednesday night Next Gen program. They are known in the community for their generosity, great preaching, and for how they invest in young people.

Position Description

The Student Ministry Director will provide spiritual, pastoral, and strategic leadership to the Student Ministry Team. This person will oversee the Student Ministry Staff of 5 team members, helping them serve families as they build their lives on the reality of Jesus.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Provide Spiritual & Strategic Leadership to the Student Ministry Team

  • Create, implement, evaluate, and refine the spiritual formation process from middle school through high school graduation with defined milestones so when students head off to college they are grounded in the reality of Jesus
  • Coach and encourage the Student Ministry Staff
  • Recruit, train, and empower volunteers as Crew Leaders who deeply invest in students.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Pastor to set the spiritual direction, key objectives and goals for the entire ministry
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Student Ministry, making sure we ground students in the gospel and are making disciples
  • Develop, evaluate, and manage yearly budgets
  • Adhere to and keep Good News in compliance with Safe Environment policy
  • Encourage students’ involvement in the larger church body both on Sundays and when other church-wide opportunities are available like VBS, Mission Trips and Serve SoWal Days
  • Ensure the Student Ministry Team develops relationships with the schools in our area so the church can offer support as needed or requested

 

Middle School Ministry

  • Oversee, plan and execute weekly Middle School gatherings until we hire a Middle School Coordinator.
  • Help hire a Middle School Coordinator.
  • Regularly teach at Middle School and some at High School gatherings grounding students in the reality of Jesus and what it looks like to pursue God, build community and live generously in their context.
  • Recruit, train, equip and empower Middle School leaders investing in them as they invest in students.
  • Disciple a Student Ministry Leadership Team that sets the example for the rest of the Student Ministry and inspires others to participate as they move through the ministry.
  • Plan retreats and mission experiences that form students’ faith, build community as a group, and inspire them to live generously as followers of Jesus.

 

Cast Vision & Build a Volunteer Culture within Next Gen Ministries

  • Lead the Student Ministry Team as you cast vision and inspire people to participate in the ministry.
  • Inspire, empower, and ensure key training events for volunteers throughout the year so they feel equipped to serve.
  • Collaborate with the Student Ministry Team to provide training opportunities or workshops for parents that help them disciple their children.

  • Three years experience working with a church of 500+
