Position Description

Bay Presbyterian Church seeks to be an inviting community of Christ-Followers committed to the transformation of our lives, our families, our neighborhoods and the world through the surpassing power of the Gospel.

Therefore, the primary duty of the Lead Pastor will be to proclaim the Gospel through the preaching of the Word so that the congregation is centered on Christ, gathered weekly for life transforming worship, shaped through discipleship into a loving community centered on the Great Commandment, and is sent according to the Great Commission to Northeast Ohio and beyond.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Lead Pastor oversees all aspects of Sunday morning Worship services
  • The Lead Pastor shall work with the appropriate staff and lay leaders who are responsible for helping members become disciples of Christ, deepening their relationship with Him so that their redemption, freedom and love in Christ will cause them to win others to him.
  • The Lead Pastor shall nurture and develop through the staff and lay leaders of Care Ministries, a sincere atmosphere of praying, caring, restoring, and sharing so that the congregation may be shaped to care for and love others well.
  • Bay Presbyterian recognizes that it must adapt itself to a changing culture and attract a new generation of disciples if it is to remain the force for Christ that it has been over the past 100 years.
  • The Lead Pastor is the primary person who shall moderate Session meetings and coordinate with the lay leadership of the congregation.

  • Alignment with EPC and Church Vision – The ideal leader will deeply resonate with the core values and theological tenets of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) while passionately promoting the vision of Bay Presbyterian.
  • Focus on Spiritual Renewal and Evangelism – The Lead Pastor will prioritize spiritual renewal within the congregation, fostering an environment where members are encouraged to grow in their faith through prayer, worship, and discipleship.
  • Strong Leadership and Relational Skills – A successful Lead Pastor will possess robust leadership qualities, demonstrating the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower others. In addition, the successful candidate will have a passion for developing and shepherding the staff.
  • High Emotional Quotient – The next Lead Pastor will demonstrate a high emotional quotient (EQ), characterized by self-awareness, empathy, and strong interpersonal skill, will navigate the complexities of church life with grace, and understand the diverse emotions and needs of the congregation.
  • Commitment to Biblical Reconciliation – The lead pastor’s approach to ministry will be defined by a strong commitment to biblical reconciliation.
  • Stability and Community Involvement – The next Lead Pastor will bring a sense of stability to the church, providing consistent and thoughtful guidance through changing seasons.
