First Presbyterian Church

Director of Music & Worship

Meridian, Mississippi

Why I Love This Opportunity

Mike Haight

Associate

First Presbyterian is a vibrant and growing historic downtown congregation. Young families are flocking here in droves, and the church continues to thrive as it serves Meridian and the surrounding communities. The new Director of Music & Worship will have the opportunity to cultivate the worship culture while living in a beautiful community that is family-friendly and embracing the future.

About This Organization

First Presbyterian Church left the mainline Presbyterian church in 1990 to join the more biblically conservative Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The church is highly committed to orthodox theology and Bible teaching and values worship, community, and discipleship.

Over the last two decades, First Presbyterian has focused efforts on developing ministries for young people and has seen steady growth in children, youth, and young adult involvement. It has also evolved a less formal worship style and now strives for blended worship, combining traditional and contemporary worship elements.

Over the last few years, First Presbyterian’s ministries have grown dramatically, particularly among young families. The children’s, nursery, and youth ministries have grown steadily alongside the adult ministries. Over the last 15 years, worship attendance has almost doubled and now an average of 329 people gather here each weekend. The median age of the church membership is 38. Newcomers are growing in their faith. Visitors are investigating Jesus. And leaders are being trained to invest in the growing ministries. As the people of First Presbyterian look to the future, they are excited because they know that the best is yet to come!

  • Someone who is a self-starter, plans well, and coordinates others is needed.
  • This person should be spiritually mature with the heart of a minister who shepherds others.
