Position Description

Under the Senior Pastor’s direction, the Executive Pastor is responsible for managing the ministry teams and providing leadership in carrying out FBS’s strategic ministry plan. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Executive Pastor leads the Ministry Team in delivering on performance objectives while developing an effective and efficient ministry operation. The Executive Pastor works with the Senior Pastor and Church Administrator, aligning long-range strategic planning with effective and efficient use of church funds to fuel the ministries of FBS.

Key Responsibilities:

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design organizational structure across all ministry areas to effectively carry out the mission, vision, and values of FBS
  • Develop annual ministry area goals, objectives, and plans to cascade throughout the organization
  • Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations with each minister
  • Build ministry budgets supporting the annual planned objectives
  • Lead ministry staff in comprehensive worship planning of congregational services
  • Lead annual staff retreat focused on team building and goal planning
  • Own the master calendar and planning process
  • Serve as Team on Teams leader for lay leadership model
  • Attend Church Council, Deacons, and Finance Team meetings as needed
  • Partner with the Chairman of Deacons in supporting the deacon’s ministry to the church family
  • Manage Minister on Call rotation
  • Coordinate large church-wide events such as annual Veteran’s Day and Deacons ordination luncheons.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in evangelism efforts and events
  • Staff liaison to Celebrate Recovery ministry
  • Support the development of a culture of performance and accountability across the entire church staff
  • Church family communications
  • Spiritual leader to my family, faithfully give at least 10% of gross income to FBS, and demonstrate Biblical
    stewardship over what God has blessed me with

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

This person should be a direct and transparent communicator who recognizes that trust and credibility are essential to leading.

  • Leading teams in a high-performing environment. Hiring top-tier team members, developing team members, and experience with discipline and performance improvement plans.
  • Experience in a Southern Baptist church model with modern management systems.
  • Ideally, candidates would have an MDIV and/or MBA and have held an Executive Pastor role for 5+ years at a church of 1500+ members.
  • Multi-site experience is a plus.
  • Candidates should be in good standing with their previous employers and have strong references.
  • Finally, we want hungry, humble, and smart servant leaders.
