First McKinney averages 1,700 in attendance, with an average of 270 students attending every week. A new student building is currently under construction with plans to open in 2025.

The church is looking to hire a Student Pastor to lead the two student staff (associates), the volunteers, and the 400+ students who call the church home.

First McKinney continues to be a central hub for spiritual growth and community engagement. Its mission is to “make disciples who live and love like Jesus,” emphasizing both personal faith development and fulfilling the Great Commission of going and making disciples.

The church offers a wide variety of ministries for all ages, from children and youth programs to adult Bible studies and outreach projects. Known for its warm, welcoming environment, First McKinney plays an active role in the city, hosting events, service opportunities, and partnerships with local organizations.

The church has also adapted to modern needs by offering online services and resources for those unable to attend in person, continuing to meet the spiritual and practical needs of a growing and diverse congregation.

Position Description

The new Student Pastor will lead the student staff and volunteers while overseeing all aspects of student ministry. This includes the weekly gatherings, annual camps, trips, and retreats, as well as the discipleship pathway for students.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personally engage in disciple-making.
  • Consistently recruit and train student ministry adult volunteers.
  • Develop discipling relationships with adult volunteers.
  • Ensure all ongoing ministry and all ministry events strategically align with First McKinney’s
  • Discipleship Pathway.
  • Create and maintain an effective strategy to reach new students with the gospel, and then move them into a discipleship relationship.
  • Develop and equip student leader teams.
  • Resource and equip parents to be the primary disciplers of their own students.
  • Supervise/Develop/Grow student ministry staff (associates, interns, admin).
  • Effectively communicate with parents, students and other staff.
  • Calendar and budget well, understanding the student ministry is one of many ministries in the church.
  • Design a process to ensure all first-time guests are followed up with and directed to the next ministry opportunity.
  • Establish a ministry that is safe for students by vigorously enforcing all systems/policies designed to protect students (i.e. background check ALL adults that serve, annual training, etc.)
  • Accomplish other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor and/or Executive Pastor.

  • Understand and embrace the mission and discipleship pathway of First McKinney.
  • Exhibit a vibrant pursuit and relationship with Jesus Christ. At a minimum, demonstrate humility, integrity, and ability.
  • Display First McKinney’s staff core values (growing in Christ, servant heart, teachable spirit, values the team, hard worker).
  • Love for students and adult volunteers.
  • Must agree and adhere to Statement of Core Beliefs.
  • Several years of experience leading students, a volunteer team, and other staff.• Ability to work with people beyond simply giving instructions.
  • Adaptable and able to perform in stressful situations.
  • Good team player with a willingness to do what is needed to accomplish team’s tasks.
  • Seminary Degree
