From weekend messages to using digital and social platforms, ENCOUNTER cares deeply about producing compelling content that engages their community. Great strides have been taken in recent years to improve Communications’ systems and strategic initiatives. While covering the bases for everyday communication (design, email, print media, social media, video, etc.) is essential to success in this role, ENCOUNTER is also looking for someone who can help lead them in communications with strategic planning and overall campaign management. This individual must be a high-capacity brand-cheerleader for ENCOUNTER, working right alongside ministry leaders to help drive engagement. This cultural fit will be necessary for the new Communications Director as they will need to quickly identify with ENCOUNTER’s story and capture their unique voice.

ENCOUNTER also recognizes their immediate need for a more proactive campaign of story-telling and digital innovation that will lead to increased levels of engagement.

Church Description *
ENCOUNTER began under the name of Bible Fellowship Church in Ventura in 1953. They are Located not too far from the center of this suburban beach town only 50 miles up the coast from Los Angeles. From their humble roots in a living room to their existing campus, their goal has always been to communicate and share the grace of God locally and globally. The most recent phase of their well maintained 5-acre campus was built in 1999 where an 800 seat auditorium was added. ENCOUNTER is a well-resourced campus, providing ministries for all ages from all walks of life, which includes vibrant children and youth ministries and a well-respected preschool with over 200 children. Their wide range of ministries are designed to provide a place of comfort, hope, and restoration in Jesus for those who long for more to life in what can be a painful and empty journey. The Bible has always remained their source of ultimate truth and direction, as they embrace a mission to “ENCOUNTER God, Encourage Each Other, and Engage the World.”

Position Description *
The Communications Director has a God-given passion for ensuring the formal channels of communication and branding clearly and consistently represent the mission, vision, and values of the church. This position is critical to establishing the face of ENCOUNTER and ENCOUNTER Preschool in our community and helping them understand who they are, engage in our mission, and empower them to become ambassadors. This position partners directly with leadership, ministry and creative teams to ensure quality and messaging is tailored and delivered using the appropriate channels for internal and external communication to suit specific audiences and advance the mission of ENCOUNTER.

Responsibilities include:
-Communicating a clear and compelling vision for the Communications strategy of ENCOUNTER that aligns with the overall vision and mission of the church.
-Building systems, strategies, and structures to create a strong brand awareness for ENCOUNTER.
-Partnering with leadership team and ministries to create and maintain a digital strategy (web, social media, content calendars).
-Proactively work with ministry leaders to keep communications and web content updated and consistent with the church’s visual aesthetics & language standards.
-Oversee ministry publications & graphics, information docs, etc.; sermon series support (graphics, bumpers); marketing materials (info sheet, billboards, signs, ads, social media).
