About This Organization
Since 1944 Meredith Drive Reformed Church has been proclaiming the Gospel in Des Moines through words and actions. For over 75 years the leadership at Meredith Drive (MDRC) have taken risks through faith to continue to be the type of church that moves forward.
The church stands at such a moment once again as it begins a unifying effort to move to one campus in the fall of 2021. The church has cast the vision to leave behind the older campus on Meredith Drive and move to their second, and newer, campus. It is a multi-use facility that seats about five hundred in the main room. It is located in the north west suburb of Des Moines called Johnston.
In a word, the Des Moines area is surprising. It recently was ranked by US News and World report as number 7 on its list of best places to live. Over the last decade it has increasingly grown as a place for young millennials with growth more than double that of average in this age range. Johnston has a thriving school system, bike trails, and excellent sports programs. The Des Moines metro population is approximately 600,000.
Like many churches MDRC wasn’t quite prepared for the online COVID reality and did that quickly. “Covering two campuses has over-extended our team the last couple of years,” says Senior Pastor Suzanne Vogel. Many gains have been made at The Bridge campus in tech and production with in-ear monitors, intelligent lighting and other media improvements. While there is a handful of core volunteers a new focused energy is needed around recruiting and equipping. The ministry is anchored by a four-to-six-piece modern band and a song rotation of Elevation, Bethel, Hillsong and an occasional hymn.
Leadership Challenges & What is Next:
Merging two campuses into one vibrant ministry will be challenging, especially when the campuses are of different styles. “We desire to move in one direction that is excellent, vibrant, and consistent,” says Pastor Suzanne, we want them to have new ideas that resonate with our DNA and vision.
