    Why We Love This Opportunity

It is an exciting and invigorating season in the life of Sycamore Creek and the perfect time for the right leader to join the team!

Sycamore Creek is compelled by the call of Jesus to radical, vulnerable, transformational love, regardless of race, gender, or class. This passion begins with the leadership of Sycamore Creek, and the right Campus Pastor will see the world and people through this lens.

The Campus Pastor need not be an expert in certain matters of life and society but absolutely must be the type of leader who is wired & willing to sit in the challenging moments with people from all walks of life. All are welcomed in the front doors of Sycamore Creek’s buildings and hearts with that in mind.

    About This Organization

Sycamore Creek is a “daughter congregation” of Holt United Methodist Church. Barb Flory, a “rebel grandma” pastor, came to Holt in 1998 to serve as Holt UMC’s associate pastor and begin the two-year task of planning the new church, assembling a launch team, and getting the word out to the community.

Sycamore Creek’s first worship service was on November 12, 2000. Since then, Sycamore Creek has grown in attendance, developed a thriving children’s and youth ministry, launched numerous small groups, and reached out to serve the community and world.

On July 1, 2009, Tom Arthur, a “Blue Devil” pastor (he went to seminary at Duke Divinity School), joined the team. In October 2012 Sycamore Creek became one church in two locations when they launched Church in a Diner which ran for four years before they launched Church in a Pub.  These were the first steps in a big vision of launching seven satellites in seven venues on seven days of the week.

On December 8, 2016, Potterville United Methodist Church voted to become a campus of Sycamore Creek. This added a second campus or “launchpad” into the Lansing region.
On March 13, 2022, Asbury UMC voted to become a campus of Sycamore Creek. This will add a third campus to the Sycamore Creek “launchpad.”

    Position Description

Summary: The S Lansing Campus Pastor of Sycamore Creek leads, builds, and equips teams to implement all aspects of the Vision of Sycamore Creek for the mission of Jesus in the S Lansing community.

The Sycamore Creek vision frame consists of four components:

MISSION: To ignite authentic life in Christ and fan it into an all-consuming flame.

    VALUES: Curious, Creative, Compassionate

STRATEGY: Connect (to God and others), Grow (in the character of Christ), Serve (the church, the community, and the world)

MEASURES: Do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God.

    Priority Qualification: TEAM PLAYER

The ideal campus pastor will be, first and foremost, a team player, both leading a team (the team at the S Lansing Campus) and being led by a team (the Sycamore Creek Vision Team and pastor team) and challenging and sharpening every team. They will be coachable, willing to regularly evaluate themselves, and receive evaluation and direction from their team members and leaders. They will be willing to take significant leadership authority in accountability to the church mission. They will begin in a residency being mentored and on-ramped over several months by the lead pastor, who is the current S Lansing Campus pastor.
