The Compass Church
Naperville Campus Technical Director
Why We Love This Opportunity
The Compass Church is an on-mission, disciple-making church in Chicago’s western suburbs with proven potential and a healthy culture. Even though they are a large church of many campuses (3,800 pre-COVID), Compass Church is friendly, kind, and serious about its mission of Helping People Find & Follow God. They have a reputation for relevant bible teaching, reaching both the seeker and the believer. While 2021 was a challenging year for many, with prayer, humility, and an emphasis on building a healthy staff culture, Compass Church was able to gain momentum and take new ground. More people than ever before are engaged in the ministries of The Compass. The Naperville Campus is the largest and broadcast campus of Compass Church, and the Technical Director is a great opportunity for a seasoned TD to work with an excellent team and great technology at a high-impact and outward-oriented church in a world-class city.
About This Organization
After humble beginnings as the “Evangelical Free Church of Naperville” meeting in a local bank building, The Compass Church has grown to four physical campuses spanning 12 worship services, including one Spanish service. They have also recently launched an online campus. The Compass Church is a healthy multigenerational family church! The community and volunteer cultures are robust. They are “seeker-sensitive” at heart, and there is momentum as they increase their evangelistic fervor – even amid a pandemic. They are driven to take the gospel “Here, Near, & Far.” And to do it all for the glory of God.
The energetic, intentionally crafted, and modern worship style is evident as each campus prioritizes helping believers encounter and connect relationally with God while inspiring curiosity and engaging the non-believers in the room. The Arts Team is committed to discipleship, evangelism, health, creativity, relevance, great production, and solid biblical grounding.
This is a collaborative worship and programming environment, with Worship Directors and Technical Directors from all campuses coming together to build powerful worship experiences. They co-create as they program services, support one another through challenges, and celebrate successes together. They have built healthy systems to ensure that everyone and every campus can succeed.
The Naperville Campus is the largest campus and broadcast campus of The Compass (1,300 each week, 2,300 pre-COVID). The auditorium is beautiful with a modern “black-box” audio/visual/lighting system.
There are three major components to the Naperville Technical Director role. First, while Technical Directors are assigned to a campus, they have a team-first attitude and may help other campuses as needs arise. This person must develop healthy relationships, support counterparts, and consistently build good culture. Second, the Technical Director is responsible for executing each weekend service with grace and emotional health. They set volunteers and contractors up to succeed. Some systems are newer than others, but were all bought with quality in mind, professionally installed, and function well today. The Technical Director will need experience and skill to understand and train others in the effective operation of each tool. Finally, the Technical Director must be a shepherd-leader. While technical teams are made up of contracted professionals and volunteers, they are generally heavier on the lay-leader side. Developing these volunteers is crucial.
The Compass is excited to welcome a Technical Director who is technically skilled, creative, spiritually mature, emotionally mature, and has high leadership ability.
