About This Organization

The history of Hillside Christian Church is a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the dedication of generations of believers. Hillside’s story began in 1971 when families, inspired by their love for Jesus and his message, gathered to worship, pray, and learn from the Bible. Over time, more people joined them, and they moved from a rented space to a small church built on a hillside. Since then, the church building has been expanded twice, and the congregation has grown from a small core of four families to a regular Sunday attendance of over a hundred people.

Today, Hillside Christian Church is stronger thanks to the grace of God and the commitment of their members. Hillside prioritizes spiritual growth through biblical teaching, prayer, worship, and fellowship as an active multi-generational church community.

Position Description

Hillside Christian Church is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Senior Pastor who firmly believes in the authority of the Bible as the inspired Word of God and embraces the belief in baptism by immersion. As our congregation’s spiritual leader, the Senior Pastor will provide visionary leadership, engage in biblical teaching and preaching, and shepherd the members of our church.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to the Gospel, a passion for evangelism, and adhere to the following core beliefs:
  • Preach and Teach: Provide engaging and biblically sound preaching and teaching that aligns with the church’s core beliefs, emphasizing the authority of the Bible and the centrality of Jesus Christ.
  • Visionary Leadership: Direct, communicate, and lead the congregation towards spiritual growth and fulfillment of the church’s mission, aligning it with God’s purposes and led by the Holy Spirit.
  • Pastoral Care: Shepherd and care for the spiritual well-being of the congregation through counseling, visitation, and support during times of joy, grief, and crisis.
  • Worship Leadership: Oversee the planning and execution of meaningful and impactful worship services that facilitate authentic encounters with God.
  • Discipleship and Outreach: Develop and implement strategies for discipleship, equipping believers for ministry, and leading the church in reaching out to the community with the love and message of Jesus Christ.
  • Church Administration: Work collaboratively with the leadership team and staff to provide effective oversight of church operations, including budgeting, personnel management, and strategic planning.

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • A degree in theology or a related field from an accredited seminary or divinity school is preferred. Additional relevant certification or ongoing theological education is desirable.
  • Have a minimum of five years of pastoral experience, preferably in a leadership role, demonstrating a track record of effective preaching, teaching, and leading.
  • The Senior Pastor should affirm the biblical model of elders leading the local church while recognizing the role of ministry leaders and the importance of community engagement, missions, and growing in Christ together.
  • An appreciation of the Restoration Movement heritage of the congregation:  We are associated with other independent Christian Church/Church of Christ congregations and missions.
