With just over 2,000 this past Easter—Good News is looking for a High School Pastor to pour into the students who visit and call this place home.

Good News Church is a Free Methodist Church with three Sunday morning services and a thriving Wednesday night Next Gen program. They are known in the community for their generosity, great preaching, and for how they invest in young people.

Position Description

The High School Pastor will provide spiritual, pastoral, and strategic leadership to all aspects of High School Ministry. This person will oversee the volunteer team and partner with the other NextGen ministry leader, working together as a cohesive team that helps families build their lives on the reality of Jesus. The next frontier for this role is to reach young adults and develop opportunities for them to become more engaged in the ministries of Good News Church.

Further build and develop our High School Ministry with the highest focus on relationships with students, parents, and volunteers.
Help to cast vision and create a plan that invites the whole church to invest in our Next Gen Ministries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other Next Gen staff members to help set the spiritual direction, key objectives, and goals for the Next Gen ministries each year
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and teaching series for High School Ministries, making sure to ground students in the gospel and in making disciples
  • Work alongside Next Gen Team Leaders to develop, evaluate, and manage yearly budgets
  • Adhere to and keep Good News in compliance with the Safe Environment policy throughout all High School Ministries
  • Encourage Next Gen involvement in the larger church body both on Sundays and when other church-wide opportunities are available like VBS, Mission Trips, and Serve SoWal Days
  • Be part of developing relationships with the schools in the area so the church can offer support as needed or requested
  • Oversee, plan, and execute weekly high school gatherings
  • Regularly teach at High School gatherings, grounding students in the reality of Jesus and what it looks like to pursue God, build community, and live generously in their context
  • Develop milestone celebrations for high school students that mark significant steps they take toward a life rooted in Jesus
  • Disciple a high school leadership team that sets the example for the rest of the Student Ministry and inspires others to participate as they move into the ministry
  • Plan retreats and mission experiences that form students’ faith, build community as a group, and inspire them to live generously as followers of Jesus
  • Recruit, train, Inspire, empower, and ensure key training events for High School ministry volunteers throughout the year so they feel equipped to serve students and families
  • Collaborate with the NextGen Team to provide training opportunities or workshops for parents that help them disciple their students
  • Establish a High School Leadership Council made up of parents and volunteers

  • Three years experience working with a church of 500+
